We're barely scratching the surface of the potential clinical benefit of iPSCs. But they're extremely difficult to work with. A new platform called FAST-STEM aims to reduce "the time to generate ‘differentiation ready’ stem cell lines from several weeks to 5 days." Interesting academic community effort involving "eight different cell types across nine different laboratories." Well done team! I happened to be at BioServe Space Technologies yesterday and witnessed on-orbit operation for the Human Brain Organoid Models for Neurodegenerative Disease & Drug Discovery (HBOND) study by my colleague and good friend astronaut Michael Barratt. Reflecting on yesterday's 'Impact of AI on Stem Cell Research & Medicine' event hosted by the Wellcome-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute University of Cambridge, I am filled with gratitude and optimism. A special thank you to our insightful panel and speakers— Marta Milo , Sarah Teichmann FMedSci FRS, Nadav Yayon, Owen Rackham—attendees, and particularly Emilia Agasi, who brought forward engaging perspectives. This gathering was a significant step toward democratising AI, underscoring its importance, especially to the next generation of researchers. As we delve into the myriad opportunities and challenges, it is clear that our collaborative efforts can forge robust solutions for precision medicine and drug discovery. Here is to fostering more discussions that not only provoke thought but also inspire action in the evolving landscape of biomedical research. One of my main takeaways from yesterday´s 'Impact of AI on Stem Cell Research & Medicine' event was the interwovenness between reproducibility and intellectual property in biomedical research. Organised by the Wellcome-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute and Dr Namshik Han at the Milner Therapeutics Institute, the event centrered around the opportunities and challenges of mathematical models and AI-guided approaches in medical research. Data-sharing is a prime driver of scientific discovery and key to robust and reliable solutions for precision medicine and drug discovery. This may call for new incentives for researchers to publish data, model parameters and negative results. Something to think about... Thank you to the panel and organisers!

It has been a while since we published an incredible paper titled "Automated analysis of human cardiomyocyte dynamics with holographic image-based tracking for cardiotoxicity screening " in Biosensors and Bioelectronics journal with IF 12.6. I wanted to share this update with you. This paper proposes a new non-invasive, low-cost, and fully automated platform to quantitatively analyze dynamics of human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPS-CMs) at the single-cell level by holographic image-based tracking for cardiotoxicity screening.
