When mental health conditions are left untreated during pregnancy, it can have negative health impacts on mom and baby, including increased risk for preterm birth, low birth weight and even poor nutrition after birth. Yet, according to recent studies, fewer than 1 in 10 pregnant women with a mental health illness receive adequate treatment, and fewer than 1 in 20 are cured. Women who are pregnant or in the postpartum period (12 months after delivery) can make an appointment with Ashly Skaggs, APRN, who provides behavioral and mental health care for pregnant and postpartum patients by calling 270-417-7980.

This is the harsh reality—1 in 10 Georgians know someone who has tragically passed away during or after pregnancy. Additionally, an alarming 60% have either faced pregnancy complications themselves or know someone who has. 🤰🏼 Factors such as substance use disorders, lack of healthcare coverage, mental health issues, and the challenges of living in rural areas contribute to these risks. There's a pressing need for increased state funding and prioritized initiatives to diminish maternal mortality. 📢 Your voice matters! Join the conversation.
