"Life First" Campaign 2024: Prioritizing Safety in Construction Sites In response to the "Life First" campaign initiative launched by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and Housing Authority (HA), BSGL co-organized a 5-day campaign with them to promote awareness and raise safety standards on construction sites. The campaign kicked off on 20th Jun, with top management from both Client and Contractor teams delivering key message about “Life First”, followed by a series of safety training and experiences sharing. In these 5 days, HA site staff together with BSGL site management teams are going to review risks and respective measures of the on-site bored piling activities, particularly, in the 5 aspects:  including 1) Working at Height; 2) Heavy Lifting; 3) Electricity Safety; 4) Working under Hot Weather; and 5) Temporary Works. BSGL always takes up roles and responsibilities to improve construction safety and is thrilled to Walk the Talk in this campaign to cascade such “Life First” message widely to fellow workforce. On this momentous day, we marked a significant milestone by completing the first large-diameter bored pile, which will serve as the foundation for future Building 1. Under the bright sun, project teams gathered on-site, sharing wishes for a safe and smooth project journey. Continuing our tradition, we savoured delicious roasted pigs with laughter filling the air. Presentation on Cutter Soil Mixing (Geomix®) for Fellow Consultants Sharing knowledges, expertise and technical insights is crucial for driving innovation, improving outcomes and ensuring sustainability in the construction industry. This holds especially true for innovative engineering practices. We recently completed successfully the largest-ever Cutter Soil Mixing project in Hong Kong, overcoming the unique challenge of low headroom conditions measuring just 6m. The goal was to improve soil properties and quality for a reclamation project while dealing with both low-headroom restrictions and environmental considerations. Our team designed and built 16 sets of Low-Headroom-Deep-Cement-Mixing (LHDCM) equipment to treat over 90,000 panels on barges, with real-time monitoring ensuring optimal results. Safety Day 2024 united All Staff! Workplace safety took centre stage on 5 June as we united all BSGL staff for our annual Safety Day events. The day kicked off with an energizing session of pre-work exercises, followed by opening speeches from our top management, which underscored the paramount importance of safety to our operations. This year, our safety focus was two-fold: "The Impact of Our Decisions" and "The Major Risks of Our Activities". Safe decision-making plays a critical role in injuries and fatalities prevention, as it can be seen as a process involving different steps during which various factors can influence our choices. To further address our safety focus on major risks in our activities, training on protocols for responding to heart attack scenarios was conducted. This reinforced our belief that we all have a role to play in upholding the highest standards of health and safety and that every accident can be prevented. In recognition of exemplary safety practices, we proudly presented the Safety Awards to our frontline staff. To cap off the day, site-wide safety walks were conducted and all participants received a pair of “Cool Sleeve” as souvenirs, allowing them to take home a tangible reminder of the collaborative spirit that permeated the event. By aligning on these critical safety initiatives in our projects, we demonstrated our united focus on cultivating a safe work environment for everyone. Rescue the Ocean - ‘Save the Earth’ Action Building on the success of our past workshops, we were pleased to partner with Caritas Dr. & Mrs. Olinto de Sousa Integrated Family Service Centre (明愛蘇沙伉儷綜合家庭服務中心) to hold another "Save the Earth" Workshop “愛護地球工作坊”. Children and their parents gathered at the centre for a fun and educational day focused on environmental and ocean conservation. The workshop featured a blend of training to spread important sustainability messages, as well as hands-on drawing activities that combined learning and creativity. The young participants’ enthusiastic engagement during the workshop was truly inspiring as they left with a deeper understanding of how to protect our planet. Following the workshop, a large-scale clean-up event at Ma On Shan Country Park as "Save the Earth" Action “愛護地球大行動” was organized. Dozens of volunteers collected litter and helped preserve this beautiful natural area. It was a meaningful day of community action for the environment. We are grateful to have played a role in these important initiatives to raise awareness and take concrete steps to protect our planet. After the Clean-up Activity, everyone enjoyed a wonderful BBQ lunch together. It was a great opportunity for all of us to bond and celebrate our collective accomplishment in making a positive environmental impact. New Project: HSITP Building One We are thrilled to announce that our company has been awarded the prestigious new project C2403 Foundation Works of Building 1 Development for Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HSITP) at Lok Ma Chau in April 2024. We are honored to be part of the HSITP's development which focuses on achieving the vision of the "one river, two banks" concept and creating the "one zone, two parks" framework. By combining government policies and technology, HSITP utilizes resources from the Co-operation Zone to evolve into a dynamic center of innovation and talent. This project focus on bored piling works, interlocking pipe piles, excavation, lateral support, and pile caps, all of which are to be completed in a year. With the tight contract duration and congested site environment, our team of skilled professionals is ready to take up the upcoming challenges. Commencement ceremony– Wishing success to New Project at Kowloon Bay Urban renewal is an inevitable progress to keep a city young and sustainable and BSGL has won a public section redevelopment project to construct the new foundation elements on a piece of land in Kowloon Bay where multi-storey industrial factories made of structural concrete were once erected on. Overcoming old foundations and pilings with limited as-built records are certainly one of the major challenges in this project. With advanced planning and detailed study of the various construction methods on removal of old piles, the project team had already started and removed successfully close to 50% of the estimated hundred number of abandoned steel H-piles from the old factory buildings. At the same time, bored piling works to the 5 new residential blocks had also started in order to keep up with the tight construction schedule. To follow the local tradition, “Bai-San” is the ceremony to wish every success to the project and good health and safety to all involved. This site blessing was joined by the head office management and by coincidence we had the honor to have our HR Director from Paris Headquarter to witness this time.
