BAFTA hosted an inaugural lunch at Cannes Film Festival last week, thanks to the generosity of RH who donated their yacht for the afternoon. The guestlist included industry leaders, donors and supporters, on-screen talent and alumni of BAFTA’s Elevate and Breakthrough talent accelerator programmes and our Scholarship initiatives. This is the first time that BAFTA has officially attended the Cannes Film Festival and we were thrilled to be here at such an iconic celebration of film, meeting with our fellow academies including AMPAS, the European Film Academy and Académie des César, and film industry peers. BAFTA’s mission as the leading UK charity and academy for the screen arts, representing over 12,000 creative practitioners globally, is to champion our country’s extraordinary creative talent, provide community, and break down barriers to opportunity for people from all backgrounds to enter the screen arts. It was also the first time BAFTA albert has attended Cannes. BAFTA albert’s mission is to build a thriving, creative and sustainable screen industry including running the world’s leading emissions reduction programme in TV production, and we have big ambitions for how we can help the film industry reduce their carbon footprint too. BAFTA albert spent the week delivering ImpAct sustainability workshops, attending producer breakfasts, meeting international partners, supporters and associates and finished the week collecting an award for the organisation’s work to make the industry a more sustainable place at the Global Production Awards. We’re now back in London brimming with ideas for 2025 and beyond!
