The first job I had was repo/demo, then I went on to do framing/flooring, then general contracting (under a contractor), Nordstrom rack (Westlake aka a store clerk nightmare), then Nordstrom selling shoes, then bartending. I also washed dishes throughout college. Here are the biggest 2 takeaways from working customer service and physical labor jobs: 1) When you work a job that is physically challenging that you do not necessarily enjoy, it teaches tenacity and humility. 2) When you work a job that requires you to cater towards people in this world it opens your eyes to how difficult it is to be a server, store clerk, or any other role in customer service. You become a more empathetic person. Both of these lessons have had a major impact on who I am as a person, how I treat others, and how I go about business now.

Meet Caleb! One of our dedicated Baristas in our Pyrmont Support Centre ☕ We sat down with Caleb to talk about his career journey and why he loves working at Hanes: Q: How did you get your job at Hanes?  A: AimBig Employment helped me on my job search. I've had two other barista roles previously before getting my current role at Hanes. Q: How did you find the recruitment and onboarding process? A: Everyone was really helpful, I transitioned into the role very easily and felt very welcome. I was given a tour of the office and got to help figure out a good spot for the coffee machine with the support of my job coach. Overall the process was quick and easy which I really liked. Q: What's your favourite part about your role and working at Hanes? A: Getting to meet and talk to lots of new people all the time. I like making coffees for the friends I've made and get to hear about their day-to-day. I've also enjoyed having the chance to set up systems and routines that work for me in my role, I feel like my own boss a little bit! Q: Do you have any advice for anyone with a disability who's starting a new job? 23 Years ago, I started my first job at Southport Macca's on the Gold Coast 🍔 . I still think it was the most important and enjoyable jobs I ever had. I was so proud to don my clip-on tie and brimmed cap. 😍 Here are three things McDonald's taught me that I still apply to my career today: Customer Service is king: Working at McDonald's taught me the value of providing exceptional customer service. Teamwork and Collaboration: McDonald's is all about teamwork, and I learned firsthand the importance of working together towards a common goal. Time Management and Prioritisation: Juggling tasks in a fast-paced environment taught me how to manage my time effectively and prioritise tasks based on urgency.

Today marks 2✌ years at Crumbl for me! 🎉 We joke that 2 years at Crumbl is like 10 years anywhere else, and I can definitely say it feels like I've had a decade's worth of growing and learning since my first day. The day I started at Crumbl, news of our litigation for trademark infringement broke and the "Cookie Wars" started (remember that?) and there has not been a slow day since! There's been highs and lows in every sense of the word: in sales, KPIs, morale, number of desserts eaten, etc, and not a day goes by that I don't count this job as one of my many blessings. My favorite part? I get to work with INCREDIBLE humans every single day. Not only super talented and smart people, but genuinely GOOD people, who make me laugh and smile and who make me feel cared for. It's also so FUN to work at a company with such a loyal following, knowing that the work we do each day gets viewed and reacted to by millions of people every week. TL;DR: I love my job and don't take the opportunity to be doing what I do lightly. And we're only getting started!

This is the exact drive through window I worked in Grand Rapids. I learned a lot working at McDonald's. It was a morning job during the summer while in college. I was the drive-thru person who took your order and payment (all cash back then). It's a job I think every American should be required to have early in their career. It would teach hospitality, customer service, problem solving and patience. What was the most impactful for me? Learning the 4 step process to mastery within the McDonald's system and how it applies to everything in life, even being a husband and father. Step 1: Watch someone else make fries and have them talk through what they're doing and why. Step 2: I make fries and explain what I'm doing while the person who showed me watches and guides. Step 3: I am approved on fry and can make them without supervision. Step 4: I teach the new person how to make fries by explaining what I'm doing and why. I've since been able to take this process and become a better photographer, business owner, husband and father. The last two, being a husband and dad, while working at McDonald's way back when, seemed so unrelated. But I've realized that observing other husbands and dads who are further along in the journey has tremendous value. I can ask questions. They can provide answers. I can adjust and learn in real time. Just like making fries for the first time. #grandrapids #summerjobs
