Mid-week of SafetyOn’s #StandUpForSafety week – it is encouraging to see so many SafetyOn members taking time out to ensure a safer and healthier industry. A recap from Tuesday 23/01/24   ✔ 360 Safety and Training GWO Training in Scotland is taking part in #StandUpForSafety. 360 Safety and Training is using incident data collected by member organisations to help promote a safer working environment. ✔ Muirhall Energy is taking time to #StandUpForSafety. For Stand Up for Safety Week this year, we are getting together as a team to discuss working in the onshore wind industry and preventative measures that can be taken to reduce risks to our health and safety. 👷♂️ 🌱 Each day the team are dedicating time to learn about different areas of safe work practices. 👷♀️ Tuesday’s safety topic focused on Working at Height and Turbine Rescue. ✔ The SSE Renewables Service Team based out of Hadyard Hill Windfarm near Girvan, created time to #StandUpForSafety by getting the team together to to discuss; 👷♂️hand injury campaign 👷♂️safe journeys 👷♂️electrical safety "Everyone in attendance got involved in discussions regarding the material. A very worthwhile and well spent few hours." Thanks to Nicholas Henderson (Onshore Wind Operations Safety, Health and Wellbeing Manager), Steven Smillie (Operations Manager Central and West) and jamie shaw (Onshore Wind Turbine Maintenance Supervisor Hadyard Hub) for helping to host and deliver the material. ✔For SafetyOn #StandUpForSafety week the Technical and Innovation Team at the Energy Institute created time to raise awareness of Road Traffic Accidents and the importance of Safe Journeys. The Team utilised the Safe Journeys briefing pack, and asked key questions such as; - How much are you willing to risk to get there on time? - What is causing us to feel like we need to rush journeys - What can we change to make sure we always have safe journeys ✔ To sum up the day we heard from Heather Chambers, Chair of SafetyOn, BayWa r.e. EMEA, Heather noted “Although somewhat ironically the wind has postponed some of the face to face activities that we had planned for the first SafetyOn #standupforsafety week we are still using the time to have some interesting and worthwhile conversations. Through a series of short briefings we are covering mental health, driver safety, challenging unsafe behaviours and also emergency first aid reminder. We wanted to stand out - simple as that! We are proud to have Tri-Energy as our big brother, however, we wanted to compete in the Industrial Safety Industry and stand out for ourselves, have clients ask for Canadian Safety even when Tri-Energy is not providing TA or Capital Project services. This moves onto the other reason for branding ourselves differently, we wanted to provide exemplary safety service to the whole industry and not just to one General Contractor. This way we can provide best-in-class service to all General Contractors, Producers and 3rd parties. If you do not have your own safety crew then we are not competition. Safety is not just a policy or a checklist of procedures; it is an integral part of daily work practices that can mean the difference between routine operation and potential injury or disaster. That’s why I want to share with you the Life Saving Rules, which are a set of simple and clear guidelines that can help workers in the oil and gas industry protect themselves and their colleagues from fatalities.   The Life Saving Rules are developed by the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP), and adopted by many leading companies in the industry.   The Life Saving Rules cover 9 critical activities that are most likely to lead to a fatality, such as working with a valid permit, verifying isolation and zero energy, wearing seat belts, and following prescribed journey management plans.   The Life Saving Rules are not only applicable to workers in this field, but also to anyone who visits or interacts with operational sites. They are designed to be easy to remember and follow, and they are supported by various tools and resources, such as posters, videos, animations, and start-work checks.    By following the Life Saving Rules, we can all contribute to creating a safer, more secure, and more productive work environment for everyone. Let’s make safety our priority and our responsibility. Let’s follow the Life Saving Rules every day, every time, everywhere.   And this 9 life saving rules cover the following critical activities that are most likely to lead to a fatality:   1. Work with a valid permit when required 2. Conduct gas tests when required 3. Verify isolation before work begins and use the specified life protecting equipment 4. Obtain authorization before entering a confined space 5. Obtain authorization before overriding or disabling safety critical equipment 6. Protect yourself against a fall when working at height 7. Day 4 of SafetyOn’s #StandUpForSafety week, and a recap from Wednesday 24/01/24 below ✔Ingeteam brought together over 50 members of our Wind business team for a comprehensive #StandUpForSafety by SafetyOn session. During this one-hour event, we took stock of our 2023 statistics and set the stage for continuous improvement in 2024. Key highlights from #StandUpForSafetyincluded discussions on critical tasks such as: 📜Wind Turbines Safety Rules, 🏗 Lifting Operations, ❄️ Winter Weather Conditions, 🔧 Use of the Lift, 🛡️ PPEs, Calibrated Tools, and Vehicle Kits The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, fostering discussions on various safety-related topics. Communication is a crucial aspect of our work that significantly influences our safety and well-being. In high-risk environments, such as the wind industry, miscommunication can have severe consequences. It is essential to understand the huge impact that communication can have on our daily operations and safety. Clarity and precision, active listening and expressing concerns are just a few of the critical components of communication exercises covered during yesterday’s Onshore Winter Seminar for Project Management. Our Onshore Project Management teams have been involved in interactive and engaging group games to learn verbal and non-verbal communication, collaboration, and persuasion skills. ✔#StandUpForSafety day for  ScottishPower Renewables Onshore O&M team. With over 100 joining Joe Mitchell, Ian Thomson and Gareth Piggot online, SPR were delighted to be part of SafetyOn’s inaugural safety stand-up week, reflecting on a safe return to work at the start of the year before looking at situational awareness and the need to follow SLAM - Stop, Look, Assess and Manage. It’s also been great to see our contractor partners holding their own sessions through the week too, and we hope everyone has taken a really positive message from this weeks events. ✔Deutsche Windtechnik We’re in the middle of #StandUpForSafety Week– emphasising safety as a top priority is crucial for our company, so as members of SafetyOn we’re proud to take not just this week, but each day to dedicate ourselves for a safer wind industry 🤗 Robin Jones ✔Siemens Energy, SO9 Hub took part in the inaugural SafetyOn #StandUpForSafetyWeek.
