It's now been a full decade since I had a W2 wage and a "real job." Life as a founder means being a high-cadence problem-solver every single day. Some days are not fun, and you don't want to deal with it, but you must. At Everywhere Ventures some of the things we look for in founders are: 🏃♂️ "Fast" characteristics, i.e. high energy, cadence 🔜 Are you solving something in 2 hours, not 2 days, not 2 weeks 💪 Grit, perseverance, resilience ⚖ Deep authenticity, a "why" that validates your commitment #venturecapital #founders #preseed Jenny Fielding, Conor Harbeck, Eileen McRae

Another fantastic founders event last night! Thanks to Lucile CORNET, Jamie Moore, and Greg Marsh for speaking and sharing insights on the journey founders go through to exit. And thanks to Ross Summers and the Adaptor team for hosting. Some fun points and takeaways 💭 Having the right legal team makes a huge difference, and an experienced firm may be more expensive but they will save costs by mitigating errors. 💭Networking is key. Relationships you formed 5 years ago could be the catalyst for your exit. 💭The faster-growing or more successful companies are more open to accepting help. 💭The board-investor dynamic is very tough to balance. Harder still with the wrong people. Make sure you partner with the right people as once they're in - they're hard to get out. 💭How you hire, and who you hire, are vital to the success of the business.

Chief Financial Officer at Pitch 🎯 || Former VP Finance, Legal and BI at Personio💰 || Mentor/ advisor for finance, legal and operations for high-growth startups 🚀 || Angel Investor
Not quite a conventional start to the new year. Last Monday marked a significant transition at Pitch, parting ways with over 2/3 of our remarkable colleagues. If you’re hiring, please get in touch with our talented alumni. Simultaneously, we sealed what I consider a historic deal with our investors. Rewind three years to the peak of Covid when Pitch was probably one of the most hyped startup in Europe and secured over €110M in 4 financing rounds from reputable investors like Thrive, Index, and Lakestar. Fueled by a visionary mission and substantial funding, we built a robust business with a standout product and an exceptional team. However, navigating the high expectations and VC dynamics proved challenging. In response to adverse market conditions driven by various geopolitical crises, we recognized the need for a reset to enhance Pitch's chances of success. Collaborating with our board and investors, we agreed to a deal involving a significant capital return, regaining control over our cap table, and resetting liquidation preferences to a pre-COVID seed/ series A level. While we acknowledge we won't rival giants like Google or Microsoft soon, we've now created an environment with an amazing outstanding product, a solid revenue trajectory, a lean, motivated team, and a clear path to profitability. Albeit on a different scale, our strategic reset positions the company to considerably enhance the likelihood of founders and our employees, both current and former, profiting from a future exit. Despite the emotional ride and workload of recent days, I'm proud to have driven this deal and thus hopefully to have contributed to the kick off of steering Pitch towards a brighter future. Let's see what 2024 brings.

“The great founders are frugal. They understand that the money needs to be used precisely for certain areas. Many of the most successful founders begin with no salary at all… If you’re not prepared to live that, you don’t really understand what being a founder is like.” – Eric Schmidt One of our core principles at Genesis is to be extremely cost-conscious about spend. This cost-consciousness pervades our organization, and is a big part of how we're able to do what we can do. I'd recommend watching this Eric Schmidt interview clip in full – it's a great one, with simple but powerful insights.
