Great news from Aotearoa New Zealand, Bank of New Zealand has become a shareholder in AgriZeroNZ with a $4 million investment that has been matched by the NZ government. AgriZeroNZ is a world first, public-private partnership focused on getting practical reduction emissions tools into the hands of farmers, to help the sector retain its competitive advantage in a low carbon economy. This is not only a great outcome for Bank of New Zealand and its farming customers, but there are also strong synergies with NAB’s regional and agribusiness. This kind of collaborative investment is a key part of not only identifying the technologies and solutions we need to decarbonise, but commercialising them as quickly as possible. We are exited to announce that through the FoodWealth Grain Shellers Investments earlier this year we started the FoodWealth Initiative taking a holistic, multi-faceted approach to address the challenges faced by small-grain farmers in our region. At the core of the solution is our shelling machine. These efficient shellers help farmers reduce post-harvest losses by quickly and effectively removing grains from the cob. By minimizing waste, farmers are able to sell a larger portion of their harvest at better market prices, thereby increasing their incomes. Alongside the grain shelling services, the FoodWealth initiative also provides training and support to help farmers adopt more sustainable agricultural practices. #AgInvestment federal funding expenditure--companies engaging in support for #farmers: "JOHNSTON, Iowa, July 24, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Growers Edge, a technology firm that provides modern financial products and data-driven tools for agricultural retailers, manufacturers, and lenders, today announced the addition of Elena Bell, Director of Sustainable Business Development, to its leadership team. The move comes after Growers Edge supported a significant awardee of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s $14 billion #NationalCleanInvestmentFund in early 2024. As part of the Agricultural Finance Sustainability Coalition, the company helped Climate United, a national nonprofit, secure nearly $7 billion. It will use the funding to promote #agriculturalsolutions to pressing environmental problems. Over 90 percent of farmers are aware of sustainable farming practices, but adoption remains low. Perceived risk is one major barrier: farmers are hesitant to change practices without certainty around yield improvements or other operational benefits. Cost is another hurdle: 47 percent of farmers cite the high cost of technology as a top-three concern. Effective #agriculturaltechnology companies align #sustainability interests with the interests of their grower customers. 'My extended family operates a Century Farm in Iowa, and they were early adopters of conservation agriculture techniques in the ‘90s. What was true then is true today: sustainable agricultural practices must also make economic sense for growers,' said Bell.
