"Former Bunnell Elementary School principal signed off on assemblies last month for all Black 4th and 5th-grade students. Presenters showed the students a PowerPoint with one page headlined "The problem: AA (African American) students have underperformed on standardized assessments.” After reading the article linked below and quoted above, I feel compelled to share with my friends and connections in education to read "We Want to Do More than Survive" by Dr. Bettina Love. I wish it was integrated into teacher prep programs. Where have we seen shaming / blaming children create positive outcomes? Not to mention the fact blaming children for systemically induced deficits and gaps. YET, this type of behavior happens far too often. Let me know what you think of the book. Shout out to Richard Webb who first introduced me to Dr.Love and this book in 2021.
