Each year, as much as 100 million tons of clothing end up in a landfill, with only 20% of textiles being collected for either reuse or recycling. It’s for this reason that we’re thrilled to announce our investment in Recyc'Elit🌍 Launched by brothers Karim Medimagh and Raouf Medimagh (PhD. Eng.), their cutting-edge recycling technology enables the breaking down of old materials, so that they can then be reused again and again. This opens the door to a never-ending lifecycle for textile products - a circular revolution in the reduction of material waste. At Decathlon , working with Recyc’Elit will enable us to create a dedicated textile recycling value chain, in Europe, to significantly reduce our contribution to textile waste. We have the potential to create truly circular products with this process, all while reducing our CO2 output. I can’t wait to see how it develops… #Decathlon #DecathlonAlliances #Recycelit #DecathlonLinkedIn
We are upcycling synthetic fashion waste into plastic polymers (rPP and rPS) and already is in commercial production. Patent Sri Lanka : 21862 (2021) International: PCT/IB2022/055628 WIPO publication number: WO 2023/285891 A1
As a mum and sports lover, I am attached to Decathlon brand, and I am delighted that you are committing your company to recycling textile materials to reduce your (our) impact on the planet.
Let’s knit this yarn in our french factories ☺️
having worked on these subjects the potential is significant, congratulations on this progress
Is there also opportunities coming to recycle sports equipment?
Bonjour, depuis votre changement de logo je vois vos posts en Anglais est-ce que c’est parce que vous n’écrivez plus qu’en anglais ou y a t-il eu un bug à mon niveau ?
I have been trying to get a patented sports device for mountaineering to DECATHLON FRANCE . Can anyone help?
i am proud of Decathlon not only knows how to take one step forward but also knows how to go even further, serving as an exemplary role model for protecting the planet and for encouraging others in the industry to have the same sense!😁👏

3moA note of perspective in response to the figure noted of 100 million tons of clothing enter the landfill each year. It has been quoted that 500,000 tons of microplastic enter the global marine environment each year. That is 0.5 percent of what is just being discarded as waste. Yet much marketing focus is placed on eliminating microplastics which would still be produced by the proposed materials. What company would ever place extensive resources on a 0.5 percent problem? The real issue is we continue to try to fit an elliptical peg into a circular hole. The technologies are there to recycle polymers but in the ellipse that exists the points of real impact have the least focus. The creator is not driven by sustainability they are driven by market focus and production efficiencies and limited reliable recycled material flows and on the other end of the ellipse we have the consumer the last chain of custody of the material who is not always educated that they are part of a supply chain. The consumer’s overwhelming choice is to waste, not introduce into the long leg of the ellipse that includes, collection, sorting, breaking down, reforming, and redistribution for the creator to have an opportunity to use again.
