#FlexibleWorkingFriday Just reflecting on how cool it is to be able to work flexibly. Yesterday was a strange layout for a working day. I’m so used to a 9-5! Yesterday I took both of the adorable family dogs to the vets (not as easy as you might think). Went to a lovely networking meeting with a friend (who I originally met through a different networking group). I talked about not just the work I’m currently doing with Utility Warehouse, but my hopes of getting into the publishing industry as well which was such a nice change! Chilled for a couple of hours and made sure the dogs still loved me. Then an evening appointment that turned into a new customer. And yet, because I’m so used to full time work and a part time side hustle, I ended up telling my partner that I didn’t feel I’d been that productive?! This post is a bit of a ramble, but basically, you’re doing great even if your work day doesn’t look the most conventional and we’re all our own worst critics! Attempting to work from home on Fridays seems to be a questionable idea! 💡 I mean… yes my cats are obese! Yes. But they’re so fun to hug lol. This also means they take a chunk of space on my temporary work desk… do I get a larger one?! HECK NO! More of them will just make their way up on to the table. I may have to rethink my plan and head to the office on Fridays as well. Oh well. Not really complaining about the love and purrs these loafs of fur give me on a daily basis. Hello friends family and acquaintances today is LEAVE THE OFFICE EARLY DAY! Mark your calendars because June 2 is National Leave the Office Early Day. This quirky National Day is intended to be an incentive to those who often work more than 40 hours each week. We are reminding you to take a little time for yourself every once in a while. About a third of Americans work more than 40 hours per week. Some work even more than that. Those who are self-employed or who work two jobs, likely work 60-80 hours per week. Those types of hours don't leave much for family, self-care, or home maintenance. Stress piles up and so do the phone calls from mom, the grandkids, and maybe the gym wondering where you've been. It's time to get yourself away from your desk and make the most of your time. LEAVE THE OFFICE EARLY DAY IDEAS Go to that you've been want to see. Catch up on shopping. Read a book. Take a nap. Spend time outside by going for a nature walk. Meet your friends at a restaurant and catch up on their lives. We're not encouraging people to ditch responsibilities from work. Working from home offers many advantages, and one of my favorites is the ability to quickly switch from work mode to family time. Enjoyed a nice trip to the big smoke last weekend. TOCA Social at the 02 was a good craic. School is (almost) out for the summer and the big juggle begins.   Thanks to self-employment, I shift my working pattern over the summer from five short days (Mon-Fri) to three long days (Mon-Wed). The kids are taken care of at holiday clubs or by my parents during my working days, for which we are massively grateful. 🙏   Both Phil and I will also take a couple of weeks off work in August, delete Outlook and LinkedIn from our phones and have a proper reset.   The kids and I have devised a summer checklist to give a bit of structure to the days they’re at home. We did this for the first time last year and found it helped to give the children a bit of agency in how they spend their time.   It is something of a plan.   But, be under no illusions, there will also be bickering, tears, a house that looks like the site of an explosion and around 41,297 requests for snacks. 🥴   How do you manage over the summer, whether you are juggling kids/work or are left holding the fort at work while others are off?   #SelfEmployment #FlexibleWorking #WorkLifeBalance #Summer
