In a new working paper, Mathias Bühler and I answer this question by looking back in time to understand the impact of a long-term change in the media landscape. We trace the rollout of television in Canada throughout the mid-twentieth century, and study the impact of media content on the political engagement of citizens and political accountability of politicians.
