On 24 and 25 June, members of the Collective Action initiative, the Metals Technology Initiative (MTI), attended the 5th International Collective Action Conference in Basel, Switzerland. On this occasion, our Private Sector Team, including Gemma Aiolfi, Niels Wohlwend and Boryana Kiskinova, was happy to facilitate a meeting with all members and, for the very first time, with some of their clients. It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss emerging trends in the field of compliance between members of the initiative and their clients. The Compliance Officers of those organisations could share best practices and showcase the substantial progress made by the Metals Technology Initiative over the years. Members: Danieli Group, Primetals Technologies, SMS group and Tenova

Maureen H. and Mahnaz Khan of Silverado Policy Accelerator, spearheaded an engaging breakout session titled "Build, Promote, Protect - With Friends?" during which they were joined by Iris Ferguson and Nicoletta Giordani of the U.S. Department of Defense, Sahar Hafeez of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and Narayan Subramanian of the U.S. Department of Energy. Together, we delved into critical questions surrounding the effectiveness of current industrial policies and strategies for ensuring the resilience of our vital industries within the United States while fostering partnerships with our allies. We explored whether policies like the IRA and CHIPS Act are adequate to achieve our objectives, and identified essential policies necessary to safeguard key sectors such as semiconductors, defense technologies, and critical minerals. Setting up a Lithium battery production plant is not that expensive (its, modular, size can always increase depending on need) the refineries to make battery-grade materials may be a challenge. Africa at large has all the resources to make Li-ion batteries, what it needs are refineries, then everything will fall into place. leading countries in this area have invested into refining, however some of them dont even have a single lithium, manganese and nickel mines. once refineries are set-up, the rest falls into place. The big market for Lithium ion batteries in Africa is energy storage for solar energy. That market has barely been tapped. Can't wait for us to finally start producing our own. can barely wait to join this meeting.

EPMF and Eurometaux (European Metals Association) very well presented 👏 by France Capon at the #AntwerpDeclaration roundtable with Nicolas Schmit European Commission organized by Cefic and industriAll Europe. Discussions between social partners and #industry on #skills, quality industrial #jobs, #climateneutrality, industrial #transformation, social aspects and a right moment to sign a joint position paper 📝 ✍️📃 We strongly agree with the concluding remarks of the joint position paper calling for “An Industrial Deal focused on ensuring quality industrial jobs in Europe” - ‘A competitive European industry, based on a European Industrial Deal, is the “conditio sine qua non” for the successful delivery of the EU Green Deal. It is also the only way to show to the rest of the world that the Green Deal works for all.’ #IndustrialDeal #EUGreenDeal

The Blended Capital Group - ESG, Governance, Strategy and Finance Integration Leadership Focused on Impact Delivery
I was thrilled being part of the Critical Minerals International Alliance webinar earlier this week. Thanks Olimpia Pilch and Jeff Townsend for organizing, and thanks David Livingstone, Terry Garde and Rosanna Tufo for being fantastic co-panelists. Can artisanal and small scale #mining be part of the #criticalminerals solution. The answer - a resounding yes. 🎉 #ASM formalization increases productivity by 2X, 3X or even 5X sometimes while also delivering significant shifts in social outcomes. #mininginvestment and #impactinvestment that supports formalization is commercially realistic given the combination of value and impact that is created 🎉 ASM is huge - the sector already plays important economic roles for many critical minerals and can grow significantly 🎉 professionalization in the sector is a geopolitical opportunity - productivity growth in a sector that has been largely invisible 🎉 misconceptions around the nature of ASM need to be eliminated - artisanal miners are inherently legal, productivity growth supports returns, risks are managed through diversified portfolios of projects across countries and minerals The Blended Capital Group and our partners are committed to reimagining outcomes in ASM. Results make commercial, social and geopolitical sense as stable predictable business relationships increase tonnage, development, value and dignity. Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) Levin Sources BanQu Inc. Napier Meridian If you didn't have the chance to join us earlier in the week, you can access the recording below. I hope you find the conversation interesting and informative. Reach out if you want to learn more.
⛏️ The CMIA was delighted to host an insightful discussion on the role of ASM in critical minerals supply chains. 🎥 Watch the recording here | https://lnkd.in/eYDzvKf6 The discussion focused on key themes: - Tackling misconceptions with education to raise awareness - Incentivising finance and impact investment to help support professionalisation - The journey of formalisation of the sector and flexible legal frameworks - Creation of reliable offtake purchasing and stable predictable relationships - Driving greater supply chain transparency in the context of geopolitics and investor confidence including space observation - Collaboration rather than allocation of responsibility to a single stakeholder - Inclusion at grassroots levels A big thank you to our wonderful panellists for sharing their insights and expertise! And a warm thanks to all of those who tuned in and asked excellent questions. Panellists: - Rosanna Tufo, Senior Advisor, Levin Sources - Rob Karpati, Partner and Senior Advisor, The Blended Capital Group - Terry Garde, Independent Consultant - David Livingstone, Director, Napier Meridian #criticalminerals #supplychains #energytransition #geopolitics #ASM
