To ensure a successful and well-rounded ophthalmic residency program, gaining surgical proficiency in #cataract surgery is crucial. In the United States, US residency programs require residents to have performed at least 86 cataract surgeries independently. With simulation-based training, #ophthalmic trainees can practice surgical techniques, and have the flexibility to pause, stop, and start sessions at any time. This lets trainees practice without risk to patients and gain surgical confidence and proficiency! 👉 Learn more about simulation-based training. https://bit.ly/3W2NocN

Two studies published in JAMA Surgery show that female surgeons in a male-dominated field spend more time in the operating room and result in fewer postoperative complications for their patients. The first study, based on Canadian patients, found that patients treated by female surgeons had better outcomes at 90 days and one year after surgery, even when accounting for various factors. The second study, focused on Swedish patients undergoing gallbladder surgery, revealed that although female surgeons took longer during operations, their patients had shorter hospital stays and fewer complications compared to those treated by male surgeons. #WomenInMedicine #SurgicalOutcomes #FemaleSurgeons
