Suicide rates for veterans were 57.3% greater than non-veteran adults according to the 2022 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report. Reasons for these numbers stem from experiences that come with service – mental health struggles, trauma, and difficulty transitioning into civilian life to name a few. If you or a loved one is struggling with thoughts of suicide, don't be afraid to ask for help. Together, we can work towards a future filled with HOPE and emotional wellness. It's interesting when I hear someone talk about suicide and they think the answer is "just don't do it." It would be nice if it was that simple. It's not though. When someone's life is so dark and they see no light around them, they may try to figure out a solution to help them feel better. Suicide is not the answer. Though to some people, it becomes their solution and way to find relief. When you see someone sad, lonely, depressed, or just get a "I wonder if they're okay" vibe, take a moment and think of a way that you could be a ray of light for then. Then do it. Even if it's just for a moment. Every second counts, every kind word matters, and one person can save a life.
