Today, you might be standing next to someone who is trying their best not to fall apart. Whatever you do today, do it with kindness in your heart. A few years ago, I had a pivotal moment that reshaped my approach to leadership. During a particularly intense project, I noticed a team member, typically a high performer, seemed unusually quiet and disengaged. Rather than jumping into our usual tasks, I asked them how they were really doing. The response was eye-opening. They were overwhelmed with personal issues, trying to balance work while caring for a sick family member. The stress was immense, and they were barely holding it together. Instead of focusing on project deadlines, we talked about support. We discussed flexible hours, potential resources, and just took a moment to breathe. This simple act of kindness and understanding transformed our working relationship. It showed them that their well-being was a priority, not just their output. This experience underscored a crucial point for me as a leader: empathy and kindness are not just nice-to-haves; they are essential components of effective leadership. When we prioritize the human aspect, we create an environment where people feel valued and supported. This, in turn, enhances productivity, loyalty, and overall team morale. Industry insights consistently highlight the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership. Studies show that leaders who demonstrate empathy and understanding tend to foster more collaborative and innovative teams. This approach doesn't mean lowering standards; it means creating a foundation of trust and support that enables people to perform at their best. So, as you go about your day, remember that the person next to you might be dealing with challenges you know nothing about. A little kindness can go a long way. AGREED! I have always followed the mantra, "fake it, until you make it". but I find the one thing, I refused to fake was lack of care because certain tasks "were not my job" In a recent role I realised that I simply want the best for the clients and team I am helping. If I notice an error that I could easily correct, then, I would. Sometimes as simple a adding a new account in the client's chart of accounts. Correcting bulk allocations across into the correct account. I was told not to correct client data that had been incorrectly entered in our system... gender, phone numbers, email addresses, spelling of client name ......all examples of things I must not fix as it's an admin job. I have recognised a fierce divide between Accountants and their administration teams. Accountants are told not to correct data as it is an admin job. This has then left Accountants looking down on their admin team members, not realising that without the admin team, they would struggle. When I join a firm. I join a TEAM. Teams, work together. It would take longer to send admin the email then just fix data myself. I have discovered that one thing I refuse to fake, is lack of care for my clients and for the ENTIRE team I am part of. Education must be for employment first; poverty alleviation is its obvious logical sequence!! Break the EVIL cycle of creating poverty being ONE AND ONLY solution to eradicate poverty AND GENERATING employment for all REGARDLESS LEVEL OF ECUCATION, skill AND/OR experience! Since the root cause of all socio-economic and political problems of Bangladesh is the unemployment problem and this unemployment problem is being created due to our education system; which is totally production and employment disoriented! Therefore, if the education system can be developed as all-round production and self-employment-oriented, almost all of the of the existing socio-economic and political problems will be automatically solved! Yes, it is as simple as the famous story of the 'shoe invention'" by the great poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore; If all rural secondary schools can be turned into Agri-schools and rural colleges into Agri-colleges, and all urban secondary schools and colleges can be converted into engineering schools and engineering colleges and business schools and business colleges respectively. There will be only one text book for each class from class six to ten, and the book will be in two versions; Bengali and English. The Agri-schools; book shall have a series of simple presentations on poultry, dairy, fisheries, modern farming techniques, crop diversification, crop rotation, irrigation, agricultural inputs, bio-gas, organic fertilizers, soil science, solar energy, etc. and related mathematics. Each book will also contain a chapter on religious education for the development of morality and noble character of the students. This common textbooks must also be made compulsory for all secondary level Madrasas in addition to their existing Arabic curriculum. Books in English and Bangla versions of agro farms/projects and agro-industries and related mathematics/commercial mathematics will be taught in agro-colleges. There SHALL be PROVISION OF Bank loans for S.S.C & H.S.C. passed students so that they can cultivate their land, raise poultry and cows in the premises of their houses and ensure the use of practical knowledge of modern technology that they have learnt in their schools/colleges. Similarly, the textbooks of urban based engineering and business schools and colleges and with the arrangement of bank-loan against the certificate of the passed-out students so that urban students can also get self-employment opportunities . Only the extraordinary students who will pass with higher grades both of in rural and urban colleges will get the opportunity for higher education and research under the existing Universities. Besides, EVERY Upa-zila and district based health complex have to be upgraded as Medical School and Medical Colleges respectively.
