When tracking GHG emissions and developing reduction strategies to reach NetZero, all 3 scopes must be evaluated. The proverbial “big picture” view is critical to avoid projects that would result in emission disbenefits by reducing emissions in one scope only to increase emissions in another. The path to true NetZero is a marathon and success requires diligence, collaboration, agility, innovation, and patience. Confucius once said, “Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.” The same can be said when it comes to NetZero.

We had the privilege of speaking with Simon Manley, the Head of Carbon at UNDO, a pioneering carbon removal company, as part of our exclusive Big Zero Briefing. Simon shared insights on the evolution of carbon offsetting and its crucial role in achieving net zero targets. ‘If you wait till the last minute to engage with carbon removals, you risk falling short of your targets,’ Simon advised. ‘Being on a net zero pathway means integrating carbon removal strategies. Once your company has decarbonised to its maximum capacity, the next step is to actively remove any remaining carbon emissions from daily operations. Delaying action until the eleventh hour will only lead to supply shortages in the carbon removal marketplace. Organizations must act now to secure a reliable supply.’ UNDO employs a groundbreaking technique called enhanced rock weathering to remove carbon from the atmosphere. This process involves accelerating a natural reaction between rain, CO2, and specific types of rock. By spreading finely ground silicate rock, such as basalt, UNDO facilitates chemical reactions that effectively capture carbon dioxide. Simon highlighted the careful growth of the carbon removal sector, emphasizing the importance of credibility and integrity. ‘The early years of carbon offsetting were marred by project failures and misinformation,’ he explained. ‘To differentiate itself from traditional offsetting practices, the carbon removal sector is committed to upholding strict standards and guidelines set forth by reputable organizations.’ . . A thriving hydrogen economy was a hot topic at the EU Sustainable Energy Week! We participated in inspiring discussions around hydrogen's role in promoting sustainability and STX Group’s Eunice Ribeiro highlighted the significant impact of regulation in fostering the hydrogen market within the maritime sector. Regulatory frameworks are vital to drive innovation and adoption of hydrogen-based fuels in shipping, paving the way for greener maritime transportation. Also, cross-border collaboration and hydrogen valleys are crucial to drive needed technology and infrastructure, accelerate adoption across Europe. #EUSEW2024

Cooperation opens up opportunities for #businesses and for the #Baltics The European Commission has already granted the #CCSBaltic project in #Lithuania and #Latvia the status of a Project of Common Interest (#PCI), which means that it is an important cross-border infrastructure project and one that will help European countries achieve key energy policy and climate goals It is also an interesting new experience for us to #openup discussions about our capabilities and new services in relation to the possibility of #transportingCO2 by pipeline. ccs-baltic.eu #Ambergrid #ccsbalticconsortium #ccs #trasportingCO2
Kartu mes kuriame ekologiškesnę ateitį ateinančioms kartoms.🍃 🌍 💚 Daugiau informacijos apie vystomą CCS Baltic Consortium projektą galite rasti - CCS Baltic Consortium project (ccs-baltic.eu) #akmenescementas #schwenk #ccsbalticconsortium #ccs #netzero #climateneutral #decarbonisation #climatechange #greenfuel #circulareconomy #alternativefuel #sustainability

Decarbonising today's energy and developing tomorrow's energy by balancing the environmental, social and economic aspects is the key principle of our strategy and the heart of our “Eni for 2023 Our Sustainable Journey" a moment of reflection on our sustainable report. A fair transition means decarbonising energy, but at the same time it means making it more abundant, affordable and accessible, creating new opportunities for people and production chains in the countries with which we cooperate. Our commitment is clear and our strategy is in place. Together, we are on track to meet our goals. #EniFor #EnergyTransition #JustTransition #Decarbonisation #NetZero
