I've been loving the recent trend of revealing the person behind the screen, shedding the public facade. So here I am, jumping on the bandwagon too. Here are some raw truths about me that you might not know: 🎓 I am the only person in my family who didn’t go to Harvard (I didn’t even get in, I was waitlisted). I used to feel bad about it like I wasn’t that smart. Side note: I went to Wellesley and it was the best decision of my life. I think the universe knew that’s where I belonged and I’m grateful for my Wellesley connections every single day. 🤗 I like healthy competition with sports but not in other areas of my life. When someone tells me that I’m not good at something, it doesn’t actually make me try harder, I just shut down and feel defeated. But if someone tells me they like what I’m doing and here’s where I can improve, I will work my tail off to get better. ♥️ I am a people pleaser in remission but it still tears me apart if I feel like I could have hurt someone or offended them with my words. 🐕 I always thought I would have a dog but right now, with two kids and a lot of houseplants, I don’t actually want another thing to take care of. 🗂️ I have a hard time throwing things away because in the back of my mind I think “what if I need this later?” 👶 I’ve been working a few hours a week at a daycare with 3-5 year olds. Sometimes after a tough day, I take it out on my husband and kids because I have no patience left. 💡 When I get an idea, I obsess over it and can’t let it go until I at least try it out. 🧑💻 Some days I feel great about my own business and more often than not, I question whether I can really make this work. 🤔 I overthink everything, including this post, which has taken me way longer to write than I would like to admit.

Let's chat about something we can all relate to – the promises we make to ourselves. Those personal goals, like working out once a week or aiming for that promotion, may seem unrelated, but here's the connection: According to research, individuals who consistently follow through on their self-commitments are 70% more likely to get that raise or secure a promotion. Those are some pretty convincing numbers, right? I once set a simple goal for myself: attending a workout class once a week. But life often got in the way, and I struggled to keep that promise. Here's the twist: I decided to change my perspective. Instead of just focusing on the missed classes, I celebrated the times I did make it to the gym. I realized that by honoring this commitment to myself, I was building the self-discipline needed to excel. So, whether it's hitting the gym, working on a project, or networking like a pro, remember that the small steps count. Celebrate your progress. It's not just about reaching the finish line; it's about becoming a more disciplined, determined, and self-trusting professional along the way. Tag someone who's working on their goals today. Let's support each other and achieve those career aspirations! 

In life, the first act is always exciting but the second act – now that's where the depth comes in. I first heard these words when I was watching one of my favourite comedy movies of all time- Grownups 2. When Higgins's girlfriend (who looked like his grandma 💀 ) said it, it just stuck with me. The first few years of my career were exciting- It was my first time working a full-time office job. I practically had no social life because I was so committed to my work. I was living out my Christian value of "working as unto the Lord". I didn't care about any recognition and accolades (matter of fact I didn't want them), it was all about the work for me. In fact, I didn't even know how to spell LinkedIn then 😄 I used to call it "Linken" smh. That was my first act. It was exciting, but rough and imperfect. This is my second act. I'm more self-aware, more intentional, more responsible. I still have that excitement but it's now balanced with a better sense of direction. I find that I now try to do more impactful work. I want to build and share with my community. I want to help people grow. I want to pull people up as I go up. In this second act, there's more depth and I love it here. If you've ever worried about your current unfulfilling career stage, please know that your career life happens in phases and seasons. It won't always be this confusing and this slow- as long as you're putting in the work and showing up as your best. Something is going to break soon, little by little you'll find yourself in the most fulfilling place in your career life. I'm not there yet, but I know I'm close. I won't give up, you shouldn't too. I hope you have the most fulfilling week.

You should be loyal to your employer, but your employer should also be loyal to you. This means that your employer should provide you with a safe and supportive work environment, and they should offer you opportunities for growth and development. It is important to be loyal to your employer, but it is also important to remember that you have your own needs and interests. You should not let your loyalty to your employer come at the expense of your own well-being. And also, you need to define clearly, are you being loyal or just being comfort? If you are experiencing any quiet quitting signs, it may be time to have a conversation with your manager or to start looking for a new job. In the content of development, what is the most important asset of the organization? That was the question of my panelist during my oral revalida in 2016. And the answer is employees...knowing the value of people within the organization will help us make better decisions. We shouldn't allow people to feel manipulated or taken for granted. Slavery is such a strong word and it is hard to feel that way. #EmployeeManagement #Loyalty

Tara Alexandra's Tuesday Tip :: You make the rules for your life. Live to your own requirements, standards, etc. This is your life and you get to choose how you live it. Every day and all day. Doesn't matter what other people choose for themselves or think of what you are doing. It's not their life, and frankly, not their business. Your life. Your choice. Don't give away your power to others. Don't fit yourself into someone else's box. Make decisions that align with your own values and vision for your life. Take responsibility for your life and outcomes ... or you can bet that someone else will. Be in your power. Or you'll find yourself under someone else's.
