I'm excited to be presenting a Masterclass at the upcoming MHomentum conference in May, entitled: 'Symphony of the Sector: bringing us together through Resonance, Embodiment and Creativity' Here is a description of the class from the MHomentum program guide: For millennia, humanity has used resonant practices and embodied ritual as a way to reconnect communities into a state of harmony, with each other and with nature. While many of these practices continue in non-Western settings, these ways have largely been lost to the West, as we prioritise rational, mental processes over creativity, play and somatic knowledge. We live in a cultural moment where there has never been more need to come together harmoniously. Rational, verbal discourse is only going to get us so far, and in some cases is driving us apart. While there is great value in returning to non-verbal methods of connection, attempts to recreate ancient forms of ritual will not work for the Western mindset. In the past, shamans and priests helped to guide communities through these processes. Now, in a hyper-individualised, secular and scientific world, we are wary of ritual and ceremony due to questions of personal sovereignty, cultural appropriation and trauma response. New rituals that attempt to bring disparate Western minds and bodies together may draw upon the wisdom of our past, but will work by being egalitarian and creative. In this workshop/ritual, Wolf Born will guide the participants through such a process. We will be using our bodies- feet, hands and voice- to create a 'symphony of the sector'. The aim of this process is to rhythmically and harmonically bring different parts of the mental health sector together. So whether you are some-one with lived experience, a front-line worker, a leader or manager, a policy maker, a researcher or an advocate, you are invited to take part. No musical experience is necessary, just a willingness to make some sound. Today, I discovered that one of the early methods for acquiring EEG data involved using needle electrodes (ouch!). Parts of self show up as emotional responses, thinking patterns, and even behaviors. The more we repress the ones we don't like, the more they act out. By becoming curious and really listening to what these parts need and what they're afraid will happen if they don't get these needs met, we can address the root of their activation. Once these parts feel listened to, they begin to let go of the unwanted feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.
