Angela Zhang, a 9th grader at Bellevue Digital Discovery, is playing in the 2023 Women's U.S. Open at Pebble Beach this week! Angela earned her spot in the prestigious tournament by sinking a 25-foot birdie putt on the second hole in a 4-for-2 playoff at Shannopin Country Club in Pittsburgh. ⛳ The youngest player in the field, 14-year-old Angela is one of the 28 amateurs competing alongside 156 of the world's best in the U.S. Women's Open this week. Sports Illustrated named Angela one of the seven players to watch at Pebble Beach and we agree! She has definitely proven she's ready to tee up with the best of the best. Last month, Angela won the Washington Women's Amateur for the second straight year in an eight-shot victory at Wing Point Golf and Country Club on Bainbridge Island on June 22, 2023. 🏌♀️ When Angela's not making pars, she's taking courses online at Bellevue Digital Discovery. Being a Bellevue Digital Discovery student allows Angela the flexibility to compete in golf championships around the country while engaging in advanced learning courses online. Now that she is a freshman, as a Digital Discovery student, Angela is eligible to play golf with the Bellevue High School Girls Golf team next spring. If Angela joins, she'll be an amazing addition to an already stellar team. Clinching the title of 2023 Girls 3A State Champions, Bellevue Girls Golf made history with a 68 stroke victory. 🏆 Congratulations to Angela for winning the Washington Women's Amateur for the second year in a row and for qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open! Summer school is in full swing! ☀️ Our schools are buzzing with energy and we are so excited to have students learning with us during the summer! Last Friday, Dr. Kelly Aramaki, BSD's new superintendent, visited Sammamish High School and Lake Hills Elementary to have lunch with students. Our Free Summer Meals program runs through July 28.
