🤠 A massive win for Texas! The U.S. government is granting Samsung Electronics up to $6.4 billion to build chip-making facilities in Texas, the latest in a string of major subsidy awards from the Biden administration aimed at reviving semiconductor manufacturing in the U.S. Samsung is using the grant money to help hike its investment in Taylor, Texas, just outside Austin, to roughly $45 billion, adding a second chip-making factory, an advanced chip-packaging facility and research-and-development capabilities. This more than doubles Samsung’s commitment made in 2021 to build a chip-making plant in Taylor.

GOVERNOR CELEBRATES $40 MILLION GRANT TO BOOST NEW YORK'S SEMICONDUCTOR SECTOR Exciting news for New York's semiconductor industry! The U.S. Department of Commerce has awarded a $40 million Tech Hub grant to the NY Semiconductor Manufacturing and Research Technology Innovation Corridor (NY SMART-I Corridor). This initiative aims to transform upstate NY into a globally competitive semiconductor hub, fostering workforce development, innovation, and manufacturing. The NY SMART-I Corridor, encompassing the Western NY, Finger Lakes, and Central NY regions, is one of only four semiconductor tech hubs in the U.S. This consortium, supported by Empire State Development's $8 million match funding, will focus on equitable workforce development, research commercialization, and supply chain growth. Governor Hochul highlights this grant as a leap towards building "Chips Country" in NY, complementing existing state investments like Micron's historic project and Albany's chips research center. Samsung Electronics’s Partnership with the Department of Commerce and Strategic Land Acquisition North of Dallas Boost Texas’ Semiconductor Future Major news for Texas! Following President Biden’s announcement of a preliminary agreement with Samsung, the U.S. Department of Commerce and Samsung are set to significantly expand semiconductor manufacturing and research capabilities in the state. This collaboration is expected to unlock over $40 billion in Samsung investment, creating at least 21,500 jobs. This monumental project will also leverage up to $40 million in funding from the CHIPS Act, dedicated to training and developing the local workforce. This development, that is not yet connected is synergistically complemented by a strategic land acquisition in Denison, Texas. An insightful investment by a South Lake-based investor, acquiring 76 acres near the Oklahoma border, is preparing the ground for what’s next. This purchase aligns perfectly with other massive semiconductor plants in progress in nearby Sherman, bolstering Texas’ growing reputation as a semiconductor innovation hub Together, these initiatives signify a leap forward in positioning Texas as a global leader in semiconductor technology. We eagerly anticipate the economic growth and technological innovation that will stem from these developments.emiconductorIndustry #EconomicDevelopment #Texas #Samsung #Innovation #TechnologyNews

American government is channeling substantial investments into U.S.-based semiconductor firms, leveraging their e-chip act to attract semiconductor funding. To the contrary EU echip act so far is used to fund US semiconductor companies to develop EU presence. This trend is increasingly evident as these American entities establish operations in Europe, rather than EU Chip Act funding being allocated to nurture indigenous European semiconductor companies with some exceptions like in Spain . This approach underscores a critical issue: without a robust EU growth strategy that prioritizes local investment in the semiconductor sector, Europe remains at risk of perpetuating its dependence on external technology giants. The continent has already witnessed the loss of numerous European semiconductor businesses to acquisitions by American rivals. This pattern highlights a concerning shortfall in local support for the sector. Thierry Breton

Intel Corporation and TSMC are postponing the completion of the new #semiconductor #manufacturing plants in #ohio and #arizona. Why? Delighted to publish my 14th piece in the IndustryWeek today that examines the above issue. As always, Laura Putre's brilliant edits are bar none. One key reason is that they are getting worried about getting the federal funds. In 2022, two landmark events happened on Capitol Hill: The Inflation Reduction Act (#IRA) was passed, and the #CHIPS and Science Act signed. Both acts hold promise to increase supply chain resilience and reduce dependence on China. After the fanfare, only a few small grants have been approved...... The Biden administration needs to step on the gas, if it is committed to improving national security and supply chain resilience in the semiconductor industry. China will not wait..... #us #china #uschina #trade #tradwar #ucla #uclaanderson #policy #federal #science #technology #manufacturing #supplychain #global #competition
