I am actually 'very thrilled' to announce that I have officially joined The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce) as a Fellow! During my first semester Coventry University, I was introduced to several of the RSA’s theories on the Future of Work, and I immediately got hooked. These theories have since become the foundation of my dissertation as I head into my final semester. A big thanks to you Patricia Routh for ensuring we understood these concepts. The RSA, founded in 1754, boasts a rich history spanning over a quarter of a millennium. It has counted many influential figures among its members and Fellows, including Charles Dickens, Benjamin Franklin, Stephen Hawking, Karl Marx (a nod to my lecturer who had us read every word of The Communist Manifesto), Adam Smith (whose Wealth of Nations I still remember vividly, thanks to some rigorous classes in Nigeria), and Nelson Mandela, to name just a few. The idea that I now belong to the same society as these extraordinary individuals is surreal. Who knows, they might have once sat in the very library or walked the halls of the RSA House which I plan to visit soon. I’m currently on a break and taking this time to explore the UK before resuming school for my final semester. Visiting the historic RSA House is my next stop and I can’t wait to share more about that experience in a future post. But for now, I need to catch this train!
Surreal membership. Profound theories captivating. Journey commences fascinatingly. Send me a request, and let’s get started chatting. 🤗 Benedicta Akpede
