Great article by Dr. Zikry in the Washington Post about Emergency Department boarding. Emergency department boarding refers to the practice of keeping admitted patients in the emergency department, often in hallways, until an inpatient bed becomes available. Emergency Department boarding has always been a problem, but it was significantly exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in a crisis within the U.S. medical system. Studies have linked emergency department boarding to higher in-hospital mortality rates. Despite evidence supporting solutions to address this issue, such changes require a fundamental shift in healthcare administration practices nationwide. The article highlights the urgent need for systemic changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care in Emergency Departments. https://lnkd.in/eKuBmEkZ

I wonder if we could trace back Covid through the track and trace monitoring mechanism of WHO and find the root causes of the bacteria/virus. Haven’t seen a study so far!
