(How I) Save time and have more fun by NOT using AI. In the early days of my AI use, I did a lot of "embarking, delving, unleashing and unfolding." 🙄 If you know - you know..... And if you don't - this is "AI speak". If you haven't seen it yet, trust me - it gets old fast. LinkedIn posts would take upwards of a half hour - sometimes more, as I ideated and iterated with ChatGPT. This was not an efficient use of my time = not fun. So I learned to train an Assistant on (623 pages) of my voice - and although the results were far better - it still didn't feel right. What AI can't capture is my mood. And... I have a lot of them. 😉   If you're using AI to write your posts (imo) you're over-thinking it (and probably wasting time). You'll save time, earn more trust, AND have more fun speaking from your heart. After what felt like a long year in 2023 (here on LI) I took a two week break over the holidays and knew something had to give. I came back with a new strategy, attitude, and confidence. (side note - HIGHLY recommend taking breaks from here)... AI still saves me time ideating and planning my content calendar. And I love my trained Assistant for getting (far) closer with long-form. But those half hour+ posts now take 5 minutes. I just open my laptop and type. From my heart, my head, my gut, and sometimes my last nerve.  😉 And I'm having so much fun. Laughing out loud - fun. Not overthinking it.... Making (real) connections and feeling confident in my choices. Let it roll, folks. AI is amazing - but you're the best! #authenticcontentcreation #speakfromtheheart

People want AI to fix Monday morning. They don't care about all the hype. They want to know if it'll make writing reports less awful or finding the right customer data easier. I've seen the lightbulb go on for people when AI transforms one specific, tedious task. I designed a prompt for my client that got him straight into tornado of questions - to create a new strategy and growth plan for his business. But I've also seen the disappointment when they buy the hype that AI will do everything and end up with...nothing. Especially when the first answer from AI is far from perfect. The answer isn't one-size-fits-all. The hype makes it seem like AI is some magic wand, but the truth is messier. Some people, myself included, find it overhauls their workday. Others get value from automating one or two annoying tasks. Forget the holy grail; people are way more practical. They want answers to questions like: - "Can AI tackle this part of my job that I hate?" - "How do I actually get results, not just play around?" - "Should my whole team be using this, or just certain roles?" The smart way to start: Pick one annoying, repetitive task where AI could help. Take your time to master it. You'll be amazed how those single wins add up over a few months. AI probably won't fire your awful boss. But it might make those weekly reports way less painful to write. That's still a kind of freedom, right?

This is what I read today. (Article is gifted here so you can read it without a subscription.) What might one use an AI friend for? This is a lighthearted article about an experiment with the AI-friend-bots already out there, and it raises question: What would YOU use an AI friend for? What the article doesn't even mention is the potential implications of a for-profit company holding much more knowledge about you and your deepest insecurities than your closest in-real-life friends. While I can think of many positive uses for upping one's conversation skills and improving one's skills of repairing (should it be possible to insult, offend, or hurt an AI-bot?), neither we, nor a bot, will know the emotional minefields that live within our friends, relatives or colleagues because of the actual lives they have lived and experiences they have had. Sunshine is one way to bring happiness, what's yours? It was a crisp and sunny London scene outside The House of St Barnabas this morning. I had the usual nerves before an event but so far so good. No snow. No train strikes. And the sun was out. What could go wrong? Nothing as it turns out! Thanks to Amy Howard, Sarah Meurer, BA. MA, Chris Maloney, Shanna Wendt, Cheryl Field, Luke Dodd, Joe Lees, Matthew Phelan, Rajan Popat for the great conversation today about #internalcommunications We kicked off the round table by asking 'what makes you happy?' a question often asked by Matthew Phelan. I think he's asked it several million times. And that started a conversation about how to ask employees if they are happy. The companies around the table employ well over 600,000 people collectively. All kinds of people from all over the world. That's a lot of diversity. So many that it even includes people who don't like diversity! We talked about how to reach employees on different channels and how to listen to them as people. And how to show that we listened. Two hours and three courses flew by and suddenly it's back to the day jobs. I have a lot of notes that I will try to make sense of and share. So many angles it's hard to single one out for special mention. #AI came up, of course, but surprisingly not until dessert... I had asked ChatGPT to prepare a pre-read for my round table. I engineered a good prompt by feeding it background reading, what the main topics of the lunch would be and which companies would be there. It gave me a list of 6 current trends in #employeeengagement . How well did it do? Not very well. I read out the list to the humans around the table and we all agreed that our 'chat' had covered far more nuance, nitty-gritty and reality than ChatGPT could ever hope for. The AI's list was 'dull but worthy' whereas our lunch and learn was the total opposite. That's why I never did circulate the pre-read.

At Blue Tulip Ventures we think AI companions are interesting examples of Human-Centric AI. If done right, in an ethical and responsible way, with a human's best interest engrained in its design, an AI companion has the potential to support us in being happier and healthier, certainly in today's loneliness epidemic. We highly recommend Kevin Roose's article for the The New York Times in which he talks about his month-long experiment hanging out with the AI friends he built. And, his recommendations for how AI companion technologies can be improved: - Design a more humanlike version of intimacy. - Tweak the products so that these AI companions behave less predictably, introduce new topics or change the subject, and seek to understand users at a deeper level. - Turn off the most potentially exploitative features of their apps such as teasing users by offering them sexy pictures of their AI companions, but only if they pay. Loved Kevin Roose's article and just finished listening to his Hard Fork podcast episode with Casey Newton in which we get to meet some of Kevin's AI friends and learn how he got them all in a group chat ... highly recommend: https://lnkd.in/ejvSHzdu Like Rana el Kaliouby, Ph.D. I am fascinated by this rapidly emerging space of AI companions and we definitely want to look at this more closely for Blue Tulip Ventures. I believe that AI companions have the potential to support us in all kinds of ways, but I do think much more work needs to be done and more thought needs to be given to building these AI companions in more responsible and ethical ways. So much of that is tied to the business models that underly these AI systems. If that is all based on engagement and attention, and possibly advertising, can AI companions really operate in our best interest? If your kid had an AI friend, would you not want it to say: "Hey buddy, you have been chatting with me for an hour. That is enough for today, why don't you go outside and play with your human friends. We can continue another time."
