As April begins, I wanted to close out the month of March. Finishing 3rd amongst our sales team, I sold 17.5 units for the month. One of my favorite metrics to pay attention to is closing percentages, as the customer didn’t just drive to the dealership for no reason. For New: 7.5 sold with 51% closing. For Used: 10 sold with 100% closing. Being able to fully take advantage of the opportunity in front of you, and knowing your customer’s motives to purchase, leads to a successful sale. Especially when you have quality inventory and KNOWING what you have on your lot. Often times after doing my interview, I’m saying, “I know just the car for you.” And leading them to their future car. There’s no reason for a customer to leave the lot when you have plenty of options for them. I put a lot of work into this month, not only selling 17.5 units but also scheduling and delivering 33 different courtesy fleet units. Being directly involved in 55 vehicles leaving our lot for the month of march.

What can you learn from a rancher from the Texas hill country? 🤠 A lot, actually. In my year+ at Cavender's, I’ve learned how to categorize customers into a few different personas — not only to give them the best customer experience possible, but direct them to the best products for their needs. Ranchers have little time and big needs, they want white glove service and the interaction should feel like a conversation rather than a hard sell. They don't need to be upsold on a cool belt buckle, they just need a dependable belt that will last them years. This customer isn't here for a big haul, just exactly what they need and they'll leave if they can't find it. But, if you treat this customer well, you'll be their go-to sales associate for years. I could nerd out for days about this, because apparently you can take a woman out of research, but you can't take the inclination for research out of the woman 😉 Anything surprise you? Has your family ever lied to you? Or you to them? Maybe on something big or even small? -"Yes, honey..the stork brings the babies." 👶 -"I'm just having one drink with guys." -"Traffic was bad" If you do this to loved ones or vice versa. Why would you assume that a prospect would be giving you the truth or full picture? "Timing is off" "Price is too high" "We like you, and will go with you but it will be in 6 months" Most times people aren't trying to be malicious. It could be that they don't know, they want to avoid conflict or tension, or they didn't have the support they thought. There are many reasons, but without diving deeper and getting more than one point of view. You are left with one version that most likely isn't accurate or complete. What's the number one trait for a salesperson to have? For my money... enthusiasm. A salesperson has to have a genuine interest in what they're selling. In college, I worked at Circuit City (yes, I'm that old). I sold home theater equipment. I'd say that 90% of my biggest sales happened because I had a genuine interest in the technology I was selling. I seriously did not care if someone bought from me or from someone else. My goal was to share what I thought was cool with whomever would be willing to chat with me. A lot of sales started out like... Shopper: "I'm thinking about... " Me: "That's great... wanna see something cool?" I'd then show them something that I thought was great tech that would solve whatever issue they were thinking about addressing. I didn't even know it at the time, but I was pretty good at retail home theater sales. P.S. There are products worth buying extended warranties for.
