London to become the 'Manhattan-on-Thames' London is on the brink of a skyline transformation, resembling a 'Manhattan-on-Thames', according to a recent report by New London Architecture. The report unveils plans for an impressive 583 towers across the city. Among these, nearly 600 towers, each soaring over 20 stories tall, are eagerly awaiting their turn in the development pipeline over the next decade. 🌆 This surge in vertical construction significantly surpasses the 270 skyscrapers erected in the previous decade alone. Peter Murray co-founder of New London Architecture, emphasized the profound impact tall buildings have had on the city's landscape over the past two decades and underscored their continued necessity. Awaiting planning decision for the proposed redevelopment of a 2ha brownfield site with 217 new homes in Basildon, Essex. The site is designated for employment use but has laid empty for over two decades. Bordered by an elevated dual carriageway on the north and a waste handling facility on the south, the environmental impacts and creating a high-quality residential neighbourhood in the midst of these adjacent land uses presented the biggest challenges. Good site access and the mainline train station close by enabled us to consider higher densities. The overall masterplan has been developed with a road and parking buffer zone along the northern boundary, a green buffer zone along the south boundary and ample green space between the residential blocks. Each block is arranged to face east and west with minimal outlook towards the north and south. A truly sustainable approach to both the site layout and the design of the buildings has been applied in order to create an outstanding re-generation proposal. New case study! The Foundry in Eastbourne provided vital homes in partnership with Eastbourne Borough Council.   This stunning 12-home development in Langney Road features eight one-bedroom homes and four two-bedroom homes for key workers and those on the housing register.   Completed in March 2022, the project has transformed a derelict row of shops into a development which enhances the area.   The constrained site would have been almost impossible to develop with traditional construction methods, but modular held the key to unlocking this site for vital housing.    Dick Shone, managing director, said: “At Boutique Modern, we are experts in designing stunning, contemporary modular homes that uniquely address the challenges of hard-to-access sites, something traditional construction methods often fail to achieve.   “This approach is more than just innovative design; it's a viable solution to the national housing shortage. As conversations around historic preservation juxtapose with evolving cityscapes, Birmingham's Ringway Centre has become the focal point of a debate. Agitating the norm, campaigners are challenging the city council's decision to dismantle this iconic mid-20th-century structure, citing its significant contribution to the urban fabric and modernist architecture of Birmingham. Designed by the celebrated architect James Roberts, also renowned for the city's Rotunda building, the Ringway Centre has been a unique emblem of Birmingham's embrace of the automobile during the '60s and '70s. Good news for structural steel specialist's today - £1bn London Blackfriars Tower Blocks Approved US and Korean developers has received planning approval for three striking towers situated at the southern terminus of Blackfriars Bridge in London. #18Blackfriars project encompasses a trio of buildings: two dedicated to introducing over 400 residences, and a third boasting 800,000 square feet of prime office space. This landmark £1bn endeavor spans approximately 1 million square feet and features two residential towers soaring 40 and 22 storeys high, complemented by an office edifice ascending 45 storeys, nearly reaching a towering height of 200 meters. Designed to operate fossil fuel-free, 100% electric, and achieve Net Zero Carbon emissions, 18 Blackfriars Road is set to revolutionize sustainable urban living. Leveraging ground source heat pumps to fulfill 95% of the site's heat demand, it epitomizes eco-conscious design principles. Beyond its commitment to decarbonization, the project pledges to provide affordable housing, offer free workspace for local enterprises and entrepreneurs, and foster a vibrant cultural milieu. With plans to commence construction this year, Hines reaffirms its commitment to London's status as a thriving global hub for commerce, culture, and education.
