1moDavid Sprague, thank you for your excellent and valuable article! Two points that I especially appreciate are "Provide praise/recognition, in the way your subordinates want, when they demonstrate alignment with your expectations," and holding subordinates accountable. Meeting people where they are and speaking their language is a critical way of building trust and relationships. Like you, I prefer one-on-one recognition, rather than having attention drawn to myself. In the other hand, some people thrive with public recognition. Another point I appreciated is your sharing on providing clear and concise expectations that align with the team or organization, which is key to ensuring consistency. Great work from a great leader!
