My typical daily activities include: Analyzing financial data and developing models for forecasting: I dive deep into our company's financial data, using Power BI to connect to various data sources, and Excel for complex modeling and what-if analysis. Tracking revenue, gross margin, and expenses: Using Power BI, I build interactive dashboards to monitor key metrics like revenue and gross margin by business unit, and expenses by cost center. This provides real-time visibility into our financial performance. Preparing reports for leadership: I create customized financial reports in Power BI and Excel, tailoring them to the specific needs of our leadership team. The flexibility of these tools allows me to present data in a clear, concise, and visually appealing manner. Evaluating financial performance: By leveraging Power BI's analytical capabilities, I compare actual results with plans and forecasts, identifying variances and trends. Excel allows me to further analyze the data and provide insights. Studying trends and forecasts for recommendations: I use Power BI and Excel to analyze historical data, identify patterns, and generate forecasts. This helps me provide data-driven recommendations to guide strategic decision-making. By leveraging Power BI and Excel, I can efficiently manage large datasets, automate reporting, and provide valuable insights to drive our organization's financial performance. IF *There is LACK of CREATIVITY *You are performing REPETITIVE tasks *You are working in ISOLATION *You are ONLY REPORTING without analysis   Over the last decade, FP&A as a function for professionals has EITHER --> Undergone significant change, OR --> Remained status quo   If you think the latter is true, here are few TIPS to make you think otherwise:   FP&A is not just about sitting on your desk and Running EXCELS, if requires one to:   **𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲**- This can be done by either using Smart advanced excel features or experimenting with new tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik Sense etc..  **𝐅𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬** - Understand the types of costs that functions incur, explore scenarios of cost optimization and push for effective utilization  **𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧** - Encourage thinking outside the box and exploring new approaches to problem-solving and decision-making.  **𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠** - Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies to keep the work fresh and exciting. FP&A, a beautiful profile, feels like SCAM to many. Here’s why and how to safeguard yourself. *Financial Planning & Analysis, FP&A* 70 Hour Week (assuming we work at Infosys) So, 3200 Hours an Year Now, ideally FP&A should have (50:50) Ratio of Planning and Analysis But, the reality is more of (99:1), okay maybe I am being too mean, max it would be (95:5). Can’t bargain more. Only planning, No Analysis. You spend days and days on making formats, plugging numbers, asking for data, cleaning the data, reconciling and then presenting in beautifully tables and charts - but the story behind the numbers is only a 2 line commentary that your slide has. And it’s sad. Is it true everywhere? Mostly Yes, that’s what I hear from friends and friends of friends. Can you beat the system? Absolutely, a few of my senior leadership friends have done that. The approach is 3 fold; 1) Strict Deadlines (save your weekends bro) 2) Sticky Business Partnering (be there in every meeting initially) 3) Reading beyond your organisation (aka market research) It’s a beautiful profile, really rewarding, loved by many, gives you visibility but is tiring when you cant make the most of it.
