WordPress recently released version 6.5 on April 2nd, 2024. Here are some of the key updates: New Font Library: You now have access to a library of fonts directly within the WordPress editor, allowing for more design flexibility without relying on external plugins. Interactivity API: This new API opens doors for creating more dynamic and interactive content experiences within your WordPress blocks. Improved Block Editing: The update introduces block bindings, data views, and enhanced link control, making the block editor more powerful and user-friendly. Site Editor Integration: The site editor allows for a more comprehensive visual editing experience for your entire website, not just individual pages. Block Theme Previews: This feature streamlines the process of choosing a theme by allowing you to preview how your content will look within different themes. Sunday, the 28th of January, is #InternationalLegoDay - and Lego features in a comparison I often make. 🧱 As we all know, SEO is too often presented with a lot of technical jargon that scares and confuses non-tech-savvy business owners. It's no coincidence that SEO is sometimes called a "𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘢𝘳𝘵" 🧙♀️ I personally hate jargon, as it sometimes can be used to hide things, and it damages our industry's reputation. 😶🌫️ I am deeply convinced that anything can and should be explained in an understandable way (thanks to Celia Rizothanasi for suggesting "𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯" by Ros Atkins as the book of the month in our book club, which strongly supports this concept). In my comparison, I explain that, with coding knowledge, it is usually possible to 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲, back to its constituent elements, just like you'd do with Lego bricks. 🧱 DIY website builders such as Wix, instead, have the advantage of letting you create a website in a few hours with no coding knowledge just by customising premade assets, but at the same time, they also have the downside of not letting you optimise most of those technical elements. I know that these DIY website builders can be a budget-saving solution for some businesses, but they often don't know the limitations that come with that choice. Investing in a properly coded website (custom-coded would be even better but might not be within the budget of most business owners) can set you on the right path for the future.
