Did you know that children who have spent time in foster care are 3.5x more likely to experience PTSD like that of a war veteran? Placement stability is an integeral part of helping mitigate the affects of trauma children in the foster care system experience. Once healthy stability is achieved, children can begin the process of learning how to form healthy trust-based attachements. This is vital to their healing journey. Keeping sibling groups together, whenever possible, is a monumental part of lessening the overal impact that the trauma of removal can cause for a child. Think about it, even if a child is in a desperate situation and removal is a necessary, they are still being ripped away from all that is familiar to them. For children, routine and control are two extremely important components for healthy development. When children are able to enter into the unknown space of the Child Welfare System and navigate it with their sibling, the trauma that comes with removal can have less severe lasting affects. They have eachother and intimate connection and that gives them a sense of control and safety. I am so excited to see that Christian Bale has discovered this reality and has a passion to help make it possible for siblings to remain together during foster care placement.
Shoutout to Christian Bale! After 16 years, he finally broke ground on a project close to his heart: building homes and a community center for foster siblings to stay together. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to creating a brighter future for these children! 📹: The Associated Press

JUNETEENTH: In January 1863, Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring all enslaved people in Confederate-held areas free. It took two years for this freedom to reach Galveston, Texas—an isolated, Confederate-controlled area. #Juneteenth is the celebration of the day in 1865 that Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston to enforce this executive order, in effect ending #slavery in the United States. Juneteenth is a joyous occasion, but it is also a reminder that making big, important changes can be slow and difficult due to deep-rooted social and institutional barriers. However, these challenges are not insurmountable. Today and always, we thank everyone who supports our efforts to change the story of #health in South LA. #HealthEquity #healthcare

Executive Director, Social Movement Strategist, Author & Speaker ✷ I Drive Justice-oriented Organizational Transformation
Howdy all! I'm very excited share that I've taken on the role of Executive Director of WildEarth Gaurdians! Thrilled to be joining this community of hard-charging and passionate advocates for people and the planet. I believe that Guardians stands as a beacon of hope and action in the realm of conservation. Guardians is unapologetic and uncompromising in its defense of the West’s majestic landscapes, magnificent wildlife, fragile climate, and dynamic river systems. For many years I have admired its bold systems-change approach to championing innovative environmental policies driven by grassroots engagement, and cutting-edge use of legal tools to hold decision-makers accountable. Guardians does what others say “can’t” be done, and that’s the same cloth from which I’m cut—challenging the status quo, strategically going after what the planet and people really need, and steering clear of false solutions. In other words, Guardians like to kick ass and so do I! Join us this Friday and Saturday at the Oak Park Library (just outside Chicago) for the 5th Annual Restorative Practices Conference! This year's conference has a focus on returning citizens, hearing the wisdom of our neighbors who have been incarcerated. I've been involved with this since 2019 and now I'm local so it's even more exciting. I'm a big believer in all things restorative justice (along with its sibling transformative justice). This conference and the people I've met have been a bedrock of my personal healing and community justice work. Register for free here: https://lnkd.in/g874tZUh The evolution in language to restorative practices (from restorative justice) is significant in that it's intended to be a way of being, of moving through the world, rather than simply a reactive technique to resolve conflict. In this way, we hope that we may reduce conflicts and be better equipped to face them in real time so they don't fester and escalate (eventually manifesting as war). I hope you can carve out some time to explore this critically important path with us. Next time you ask why REALTORs should get paid 3% on each side, remember this, homeowners benefit from it. Listen to the following:
For 100+ years, the National Association of REALTORS® has been a champion for homeownership and private property rights in America.
