Happy to share our new publication on the role of obesogenic endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in obesity. We summarize all available evidence on their role in the development of obesity, taking into account in vitro, animal and epidemiologic studies; discuss mechanisms linking EDCs to obesity; analyze the effects of EDCs on obesity in critical chronic periods of exposure; and present interesting perspectives, challenges and preventive measures in this research area. Daily News: Pesticide-Induced Gut Microbiota Composition Alterations Linked to Parkinson’s Disease Prognosis Adding to the body of research linking pesticides and Parkinson’s Disease (PD), researchers in India further examine the gut-brain mechanism by evaluating pesticide and gut bacteria interactions in patients. Maulana Azad College | Jhargram Raj College | Bose Institute in Kolkata More specifically, the review further examines the gut-brain axis, focusing on how pesticide-induced microbial community alterations drive the initiation of PD and changes in microbiota at different stages of PD progression. For those who know a thing or two about sweeteners in beverages, allow me to graciously state (or not, my writing, at times, is atrocious) why Gospel Springs will never use sucralose as an artificial sweetener (or any artificial sweetener for that matter) 👇 📚 - A 2023 study from the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health (JTEH) reported that sucralose is genotoxic (it can damage your DNA) 📚 - "Epidemiological research has indicated a connection between the rise in colorectal cancers, inflammatory bowel disease and dietary choices coupled with dysbiosis, potentially suggesting an association with sucralose consumption." Our new study, jointly conducted by researchers from Leiden University (LUMC) and the German Center of Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) reports the harmful effects of PFAS, aka "Forever Chemicals", on the people living in the cities of Leiden and Bonn. ⚠️We found that, surprisingly, 99.9% of all individuals in the study had detectable levels of three PFAS chemicals. 📈Those chemicals were linked to harmful levels of cholesterols known to increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, especially in younger individuals. 🚫The evidence shows that even PFAS levels previously considered "safe" are, in fact, detrimental to the overall health of the population. 📃Scientific paper: Impact of iodine intake on the pathogenesis of autoimmune thyroid disease in children and adults Abstract: Thyroid hormone (TH) regulates the body's metabolism and iodine, a vital trace mineral, is vital for TH synthesis. As a TH biosynthesis catalyst, iodine has a substantial role in our health. When there is a modest iodine deficit, the thyroid gland grows autonomously, resulting in thyrotoxicosis. Those who consume excessive iodine risk developing hypothyroidism and thyroid autoimmunity. A transient hyperthyroid condition may rapidly increase iodine consumption. Iodine deficiency is common across the globe, and provision of supplementary iodine, in forms such as iodized salt or vegetable oil, has many benefits. Vegetarians, for instance, may not consume adequate amounts of iodine in some countries with high iodine content. Reduced dietary iodine intakes may be a consequence of efforts to reduce salt intakes to prevent hypertension. In addition, iodine consumption is decreasing in many countries, even among those where endemic goiter has previously been eradicated, leading to the re-emergence of iodine-deficiency-related disorders such as goiter. This review will discuss how iodine can contribute to the development of thyroid disease. Attention those who enjoy drinking to celebrate the New Year: A recent study reveals that the risk of cirrhosis isn't solely determined by the quantity of alcohol consumed but also by the pattern of drinking. In other words, binge drinking over a short period is more detrimental than spreading the same amount evenly throughout the week. Furthermore, incorporating genetic data (including polygenic risk scores), which may become increasingly utilized in healthcare, enables even more precise risk prediction in the UK Biobank cohort.
