Chairman @ Autonomy Institute | Industry 4.0 Fellow: Building Intelligent Infrastructure Economic Zones ARPA-I
Great article Andy Medici, Austin Business Journal. Having 4 Gen Z's in our family, I am confident they will help launch a national revival similar to the 50-60s. https://lnkd.in/ghnMCRnD I am also confident this will take root in Central Texas and spread nationally, much built on the leadership of Gen Z. U.S. Census Bureau's 2022 found that Texas "far and away" gained the most Gen Z movers year-over-year. "Texas offers job opportunities and relative affordability," Edward Berchick, Zillow’s told Fox News Media. https://lnkd.in/gPE2MaRX Neil Howe's Fourth Turning is not an exact science but clearly identifies cultural transitions. https://lnkd.in/gF464nKZ Establishing a North Star for Intelligent Infrastructure is what will drive a national deployment and spawn the revival. Great visionary leaders and Doers are behind Intelligent Infrastructure Economic Zones. https://lnkd.in/gWnJD877 INTELLIGENT INFRASTRUCTURE will start regionally, but it will grow into a national buildout similar to past programs. The United States became a dominant world leader by making the critical investments required. Examples include the 1936 Rural Electrification; Tennessee Valley Authority; Manhattan Project; Interstate Highways; Apollo Mission; and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) - Internet. A look at Black-owned businesses in the U.S. BY REBECCA LEPPERT More than one in five Black adults in the United States say owning a business is essential to financial success, according to a September 2023 Pew Research Center survey. While Black-owned companies have grown significantly in the U.S. in recent years, they still make up a small share of overall firms and revenue, according to our analysis of federal data. In 2021, there were 161,031 U.S. firms with majority Black or African American ownership, up from 124,004 in 2017, according to the latest estimates from the Annual Business Survey (ABS) conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Science Foundation. Black-owned firms’ gross revenue soared by 43% during this timespan, from an estimated $127.9 billion in 2017 to $183.3 billion in 2021. Despite this growth, the majority of Black-owned businesses made up only about 3% of all U.S. firms that were classifiable by the race and ethnicity of their owners in 2021. And they accounted for just 1% of gross revenue from all classifiable companies that year. By comparison, in 2021, roughly 14% of all Americans were Black. https://lnkd.in/e3X7X33J

It’s nice to see Houston garner positive PR. Earlier this week, Houston was ranked as the best U.S. city for international business by the Financial Times-Nikkei Investing in America ranking. This weekend’s edition of Barron’s named Houston as a new economic powerhouse city (along with Dallas, Nashville, and Miami). The article stated the “gravitational center of economic and societal power in America is dramatically shifting, most likely for the long haul.” An interesting question the article raises is whether economic power flowing to the middle of the country would make the U.S. stronger and more diversified, or whether it would further divide the U.S. along economic, political, and geographic lines. https://lnkd.in/g-adBiXT #commercialrealestate #cre #houstonrealestate #houston #demographics #construction #housing
