Who knew a parachute-sized gown could be so fashionable?
In JSS1, my mom decided to make my school uniform herself.
After the original one tore, she crafted a new gown that was so oversized it looked like a parachute 😂.
She said she wanted me to look like Barbie from the Diamond Castle,😂😂😂
(African mothers sha😂😂)
but let’s be honest—she probably just didn’t want to make me a new dress until JSS3 😂.
When I started school, the teasing was relentless. My classmates laughed at my huge uniform, and I was feeling pretty down.
During visiting day, I told my mom I wanted a new dress because I didn’t feel like the Barbie she promised. 😒
She looked at me and said,
“You have to think of yourself as Barbie before others will. You are what you say you are, not what people think you are.”
Her words were just what I needed.
And so I started wearing the dress with so much confidence, embracing my Barbie persona.
Slowly, the teasing stopped and my unique style became popular.
I even earned the nickname “Barbie,” and soon, everyone wanted to be around me.
Now I want you to understand this :
✅ What may initially seem like a disadvantage can become your greatest strength if you embrace it with confidence.
✅ Your unique qualities can set you apart and become something to celebrate.
✅ How you view yourself influences how others see you. Believing in your own worth and identity can shape how others perceive and respect you.
✅ Confidence can turn something that feels like a flaw into a standout feature. Owning your style and self-image can lead to positive attention and acceptance.
✅ Adopting a positive attitude toward something you’re initially embarrassed about can change the way others perceive it. Humor and self-assurance can turn teasing into admiration.
PS: what was the most embarrassing thing you experienced as a child? I want to know so I can laugh too 😂😂
