At #Snowflake, we love snow references. We're a bit silly about them. Snowday, Snowpipe, Snowhouse, Snowfort, Snowacademy to name a few. There's a bit more than a fun snow reference in Snowpark: SnowPARK -> S(now)PARK -> #SPARK. #Snowpark is our take on Spark. If you have PySpark code manipulating dataframes, you can pretty much swap imports and you're in Snowpark. Snowflake is famously a "no knobs" system. If move your data pipeline to Snowflake, it often just works without any tuning. Customers love it. Some saw 99% performance gains (long hours to minutes) after the move to Snowflake. Pretty exciting to me! I can relate to data engineers struggling with #data pipelines, been there, done that. Now at Snowflake, I can make this experience better. My team is working on the Native Apps framework so expect some cool Snowpark apps on the Snowflake Marketplace.

It's been two weeks since I embarked on a new journey with Snowflake in Canada, and I'm already immersed in the vibrant tech scene here. Reflecting on my time at Snowflake Warsaw, I am incredibly grateful for the experiences and the fantastic launches I contributed to, alongside remarkable colleagues. A special shout-out to Maciej Oczko and Jakub Puchalski—my closest partners in this journey. The bonds forged will be dearly missed, along with many other friends I made in Poland. Her blog post covers practical how-tos and also explaining what's under the hood. A recommended read! While I've been honing my elevator pitch for the "app platform" we've been building, the pitch still sucked. Until now! The killer apps we've just announced sell the platform better than I could ever do. Look at these two: LandingAI is Andrew Ng's startup. Their Snowflake app simplifies the creation and deployment of computer vision AI projects ranging from automated quality control in manufacturing to healthcare. RelationalAI's app layers knowledge graphs on top of relational data. It comes with graph algorithms e.g. to detect communities in social graphs or predicting links and path. I hope it gets a sense of the power of the platform and the trust Landing.ai and Relational.ai have in it. (links below in comments)

I met Benoit and Thierry today — two pioneers in the data cloud world! Based in Toronto, I've always envied my friends in San Mateo when they mention that they sometimes walk past Benoit and Thierry and greet them. I thought I would never get that kind of chance to see them in person. I have seen commits made by them that built Snowflake from the ground up, and messages they've sent in Slack channels and design docs. You can feel that they are still at the frontline, steering the wheels, unlike some others you might only see in a company's historical timeline. I find it really motivating and inspiring that they were already experts in this field before founding Snowflake. Yet, when they realized that the old ways of doing things could no longer address the pain points, they took the initiative to revolutionize it with something new. I feel that's the kind of spirit necessary to move forward in the tech industry. And yes, I'm back at Snowflake Native Apps—it's a great team! ❄
