The 2024 DIVA Magazine x Kantar survey results just dropped, delivering new data surrounding #LGBTQ+ safety and visibility, just in time for #LesbianVisibilityWeek. While 70% of LGBTQIA+ women and non-binary feel comfortable being themselves at work, 11% of LGBTQIA+ women and non-binary people still report having experienced verbal insults, with 17% of the population surveyed being subjected to physical or sexual harassment and violence. There is clear opportunity for brands to lead this current era of inclusion, with a strong commercial imperative to act – and act with authenticity. 🌟 International Non-Binary Awareness Week: July 8-14, 2024 🌟 From July 8th to 14th, we’re shining a spotlight on our non-binary siblings. This week is more than just a date on the calendar—it's a time to honor and uplift those who are often underrepresented. Non-binary describes someone who does not identify exclusively as a man or a woman. Non-binary folks may identify as being both a man and a woman or as falling completely outside these categories. Many non-binary people also identify as transgender, though not all do.   Non-binary people show us every day that knowing one’s self and identity is a powerful thing that no one can strip away. There’s a lot of work to be done in securing full protections and rights for our non-binary siblings, but amid that work we must take time to celebrate as well. As we come together to raise awareness, let's also reflect on the importance of inclusion and support within our community. In the workplace, trans people continue to experience issues such as bias, discrimination and harassment at a much higher rate than their cis peers. Many feel pressure to supress their true identities, while others lose out on job opportunities and career advancement due to systemic barriers. Let's talk about Project 2025 - particularly the section about porn. The people behind Project 2025 and their supporters aren't on some crusade against porn. Let's be clear about that. What they're really targeting is anything and everything related to the LGBTQ+ community. We're talking about erasing transgender folx, drag queens, and basically anyone who doesn't fit their narrow view of "normal." Now, I know some people might try to argue, "But they're just protecting kids from inappropriate content!" Let me shut that down real quick. Teaching kids about sexual orientation and gender identity is NOT porn. Never has been, never will be. It's called education. This isn't about protecting anyone. It's about control and pushing a specific agenda. They're using the old "think of the children" excuse to mask their real intentions. And LGBTQ+ youth already face enough challenges. Cutting off access to information and representation? That's not just unfair, it's straight-up harmful. So next time you hear someone defending Project 2025 or similar initiatives, ask yourself: Who are they really trying to silence? And why are they so scared of people just living their truth? Don't fall for the smoke and mirrors, folx. Pride month thoughts for businesses/organizations: Gendered events, whether specified or just heavily implied, exclude a lot of queer folks. And often deliver a heavy dose of sexism as well. - Mother/daughter high tea  - Father/son fishing day at the park - Girls' sparkle hair extensions party - Learn the manly art of automotive maintenance As the parent of a non-binary child, I don't feel welcome in spaces where my child wouldn't feel welcome.
