Try this simple practice to strengthen your empathy muscle. Think about the people who packaged your coffee grounds... the one who sewed and designed the clothes you put on... the person who prepped lunch for the restaurant you ordered from. Take a second to consider and acknowledge their contribution to your life.

What do you do when you want to host a get-together at your place but you’re short on chairs and need everyone out by 9? You throw a cocktail party. Dinner parties are way too hard to plan and pull off on your own, especially if it’s your first time hosting. You've got to carefully plan the guest list, figure out who’s sitting where, make sure you have enough tableware, buy all the ingredients you need, and cook up a storm. Not to mention keep the conversation going and entertain everyone for hours – an introvert’s worst nightmare! A cocktail party is way less stressful, and you can make it as fancy and big or as cosy and small as you want. Another great thing about going for a cocktail party is that you don’t actually have to do anything yourself. You have the option to hire a mobile bar service who will take care of absolutely everything – drinks (of course), glasses, fridges, set-up, serving, cleaning up, and even entertaining your guests when your social battery runs out. When you eventually decide to give it a shot, I hope you’ll think of TH_RST first. With us, literally all you’ll need to do is choose the drinks, our bartenders will do the rest!

Think of the last good meeting you had. One that felt like a valuable use of your time. Maybe it was highly collaborative. Or very productive. Or just enjoyable. Who was in that meeting with you? How many people were there? What’s your relationship with them like? What was the underlying/overarching dynamic? What was the topic? Now think of the last miserable meeting you had. One that felt like a complete waste of time. That couldn’t end fast enough. Same Qs there. But now compare the two. What patterns do you see? Are there differences in terms of which departments people work in? Which levels they are at? How many attendees there are? What was discussed? The delta should give you some decent indicators as to why your good meetings are good and bad meetings are bad. And some ideas for how to start making improvements. Some issues might be able to be solved in meeting design. Others are symptoms of deeper dynamic issues within the org. Either way, shedding some light on the comparative highs and lows of existing meeting rhythms can be a helpful exercise in improving the way your team(s) make(s) use of their precious time together. --- Thoughts sparked by this discussion on meetings with Sam Spurlin and Rodney Evans. And I'm not easily impressed, but I'm thoroughly — if not unreasonably — impressed with The Ready's content game. 🔟/🔟
