🏍 Windsor Engineers' #IT guy, Bruce Anderson, took a road trip this month on his Harley. His destination: Sellersburg, IN and the Seed of Abraham Motorcycle Club’s National meeting. From Duluth, MN, Bruce traveled with six buddies through Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. The trip down was a blistering success, with the temperature at a “feels like” 🌡118°. Each day began with a prayer for safety: for the day, for those around them to be aware of them, and for their families while they were gone. Once in Sellersburg, they had a couple of days of meetings and hung out with guys from other chapters. 🥩 On the way home, humidity broke and the rest of the ride back home was comfortable. They had time in the pool, followed by dinner at Steak n Shake in Rockford, Illinois. (YUM!) Despite a few wrong terms and mishaps (like the flat tire, and the time someone in Indiana almost ran them off the road, it was a great adventure. “It was a great trip with a great group of guys I call my friends, brothers, family,” says Bruce. 🧡 Thank you for sharing, Bruce! Starting from bottom it probably shows shallow to medium deep depositional basin, going up it shows an unconformity. Probably we have some gap and non deposition or eroded sedimentation. Different shapes and sizes of clasts in the middle part probably shows lots of fluctuations in very shallow depth basin. Finally at the top of the core shows transgressions and converting to a deeper deposional basin. Am I right? It is a nice picture, thanks for sharing.

Besides the fact of getting the core out intact is the obvious factor of designing grade changes by lifting the track 2’ plus….

Back in action with part 2 of our #flighttoquality series. Here in Detroit's New Center area, we have a 100 year old case study of a Flight to Quality in action. To bring the non-Motor City people up to speed, the New Center area is about 2 miles North of Downtown Detroit. Some folks refer to this area, or any area in the City of Detroit proper as "Downtown," but it's a very different submarket in terms of economics, tenant mix, and just feel & flavor on the street. The only reason this area exists is because of two of Detroit's largest companies and one of it's most prominent families. Back in the 1920s, General Motors and the Fisher Family, owners of the Fisher Body company*, built these two Detroit icons. At the time, the thought was that Downtown Detroit had too much congestion, traffic, hustle-bustle, etc. As a response, you see a sort of Parisian style layout here of large boulevards and grassy medians, and a rather stately type of art deco architecture. From a practical point of view, the New Center area offered larger tracts of land for what became massive floor plates, both for it's time and through today. GM's HQ was the largest office building in the world at the time it opened, ultimately losing the belt to Merchandise Mart in Chicago, and it served as their HQ through the mid 1990s. The Fisher Building is still known as Detroit's largest art object, an art-deco masterpiece designed by Albert Kahn Associates, Inc. About 20 years ago, this area was really starting to show it's age. High vacancy and deferred maintenance was the norm, and the infrastructure was pretty beat up. Henry Ford famously stated, "Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently." Here's a fun fact about me: I'm an avid roller coaster enthusiast. The exhilaration of speed, towering heights, and the challenge of pushing human ingenuity to its limits for the sheer joy of it has always captivated me. Consider the Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point Amusement Park, which, when it debuted in 2003, held the title of the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster. It was groundbreaking, introducing an innovative hydraulic launch system. However, as time passed, it became notorious for its maintenance challenges and was even deemed a hazard to guests, ultimately costing the park more than it was worth. Fast forward to 2024, and it has been transformed into the world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch coaster. You might be wondering why I'm sharing this. The point is that in our rapidly evolving digital era, continuous innovation is imperative. We need to adapt and change in response to shifts in economics, scientific discoveries, and new exploratory frontiers, among other factors. These changes impact the speed and manner in which we must innovate or reinvent ourselves and our methods. So, when your current workflows begin to hinder your profitability, affect your output, or pose risks to you or your clients, it's crucial to reflect and ask, "How can we improve?" Don't wait for your clients to demand change; proactively seek opportunities to add value and stay ahead of the curve.
