Some characteristics that are often desired in a President of the United States include: 1. Strong leadership skills 2. Integrity and honesty 3. Vision and ability to inspire 4. Effective communication and diplomacy skills 5. Ability to work across party lines and build consensus 6. Sound judgment and decision-making abilities 7. Emotional intelligence and empathy 8. Strong understanding of domestic and foreign policy issues 9. Ability to unite and represent all Americans, regardless of race, gender, religion, or political affiliation 10. A commitment to upholding the Constitution and the rule of law. It's worth noting that these are ideals, and not all presidents will possess all of these characteristics. A Journey from Diplomacy to Politics Growing up in New York during President Kennedy's tenure was a unique experience, especially as the child of the first African Undersecretary General of the United Nations. From an early age, I was surrounded by powerful and influential figures, leaders from around the globe. This upbringing provided me with a perspective that few are privileged to have. Throughout my life, I have met and befriended many educated and competent individuals. However, I find it troubling that Kamala Harris often appears unprepared without a script. Despite my reservations, I support her bid for the presidency because the alternative, Donald Trump and his associates, would be disastrous for both the US and the world. It's disheartening that America, a country rich in talent, is left with two candidates who seem unqualified for such a crucial role. Voting for someone based solely on skin color is not only unpatriotic but also perpetuates ignorance. Many in the Black community support Harris simply because she shares their racial background, ignoring the substantive issues. Harris, like Obama, has a heritage disconnected from American slavery. Her ancestors were slave owners in Jamaica, and Obama's father was Kenyan. This selective elevation by power brokers raises questions about true representation. Will these same power brokers ever place a dark-skinned descendant of American slaves in the Oval Office? Historically, powerful African Americans like Dr. King and Malcolm X faced assassination rather than elevation to such high office. My parents lived through racial segregation in the United States, therefore I am the first generation in my family to have been a fully recognized citizen in my country for the entirety of their life. What does that mean? It means I’ve come through academic and professional environments where I was “the only” It means learning how to unapologetically be comfortable in your skin, culture and being whether you’re sitting with the janitor or the CEO It means having to work several jobs to pay for law school and to fund a studies abroad in #London 🇬🇧 & #Beijing 🇨🇳 that introduced me to #InternationalArbitration It means finding ways to turn perceived disadvantages into advantages. The fact is, #AffirmativeAction has always been a (poor) substitute for Reparations. If you want to succeed here are several principles: - Work hard, - Set BIG and BOLD goals, - Gather like-minded people with similar values, and - Don’t EVER let someone else define your identity or your path for you. My point is that we need more independent candidates who tell the truth. The real question is why there aren’t more of them… It almost seems like there's a consensus to keep things as they are, which can make the world a worse place. It's also a tactic they use to divide the American people and foster conflict and hatred. For example, if I don’t want Obama to be president forever, it doesn’t mean I want Trump instead. I want someone else who isn’t corrupt, who is against the wars, but committed to peace and isn’t motivated by personal power. History shows that if one person remains in power for too long, it can erode freedom and unity, which are fundamental to America's values. I’ve also noticed that many talented people worldwide who usually avoid politics are starting to express their concerns. This often happens before something very bad occurs.
