The intersection of carbon markets and biodiversity is more critical than ever. In our panel, "Carbon Markets and Biodiversity: Road to COP16," we address key topics such as BioCarbon's Biodiversity Standard and the market's crucial role in biodiversity. We discuss the differences and similarities between carbon projects and biodiversity initiatives, along with lessons learned from carbon. #IETALACS2024 provides an opportunity for dialogue on driving collective climate action. We highlight how the biodiversity and climate crises are increasingly intertwined, urging all actors to take action from their respective spheres. The reception shows great interest and participation from all attendees. BioCarbon thanks everyone who approached us. We are glad to make connections and discuss biodiversity conservation. For more information, please contact [email protected]. We remain committed to continuing these important conversations. #Sustainability #IETALAC #CarbonMarket

Climate change and biodiversity loss, though interconnected, differ significantly in their dynamics and consequences. Biodiversity's cause-and-effect relationships are intricate and nonlinear, demanding more sophisticated measurement systems. Unlike carbon emissions, biodiversity is challenging to substitute, and the loss of unique habitats and species is often irreparable. Addressing biodiversity loss requires tailored, locally differentiated approaches due to the distinct nature of ecosystems. It's crucial to recognize that biodiversity loss presents multifaceted challenges with far-reaching consequences. ➡ Follow Richard Blundell for daily posts about the impact of biodiversity. #biodiversity #climatechange #sustainability #impact

It´s #BiodiversityDay 2024! In December 2022, leaders from 190 countries adopted the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. In addition to 23 environmental targets, the pivotal agreement aims to protect 30 percent of the planet’s land and oceans by 2030 - known as the 30x30 plan. Why is this so important? A million species are at risk of extinction right now. Biodiversity loss and climate change combined will accelerate us toward the global earth system tipping points - already breached in some areas. There are so many great ideas, initiatives and changemakers working on this right now. Today is a great time to start to learn about the topic and support the positive work going on to enable positive tipping points! #PartofthePlan #ForNature

The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) is celebrated on May 22 every year to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. The significance of this day lies in highlighting the vital role that biodiversity plays in ecosystem services, such as providing food, clean water, and air, and in regulating climate. Biodiversity also supports cultural and recreational activities, and it is essential for scientific research and education. Conservation efforts are a key focus on this day, as biodiversity is under threat from human activities such as deforestation, pollution, and climate change. International Biodiversity Day aims to inspire actions to protect and restore ecosystems, promote sustainable use of natural resources, and raise awareness about the necessity of conserving the natural world for future generations. #jijiwishasociety #biodiversity #plantation #trees #climatechange

Why are corals key to meeting global biodiversity targets? Biodiversity is being lost at an unprecedented rate. One million species currently face the threat of extinction and half the world’s coral has disappeared since the 1950’s. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) sets out the need to protect and restore all of our ecosystems, and to rebuild their functional connectivity. We know protecting and restoring coral will actively support GBF goals. Perhaps more importantly, not doing so will make any target connected to marine health and biodiversity effectively impossible to meet. Find out how CORDAP is uniquely placed to help meet many of the GBF targets: https://lnkd.in/ecaaWiiS #Biodiversity #GlobalGoals #ClimateAction #ClimateChange #Corals #Conservation #Restoration

What is Biodiversity? 🌳 Biodiversity, the incredible variety of life on our planet, is the bedrock of ecosystems that provide vital services: from clean air and water to food security and climate regulation. 🚨 Yet, it faces unprecedented threats from human activities. The decline in biodiversity isn’t just an environmental issue; it's a direct threat to our survival and quality of life. The main reasons for biodiversity loss are: 🐸 Changes in land use (e.g. deforestation, intensive mono-culture, urbanisation) 🐸 Direct exploitation such as hunting and over-fishing 🐸 Climate change 🐸 Pollution 🐸 Invasive alien species 🇪🇺 Recognizing the urgent need to combat biodiversity loss, the European Commission launched the 2030 Biodiversity Strategy. This commitment was further strengthened by the European Parliament, culminating in the recent endorsement of a groundbreaking nature restoration law in February 2024. That is why with Brainforest, ☝️ the first venture studio dedicated to forests and climate, we uniquely positioned ourselves at the forefront of this global challenge. Brainforest aims to halt biodiversity loss by fostering innovative ventures focused on preserving and restoring the planet’s forests. Together, we can make a difference for our planet’s biodiversity. #eureopeancomission #eu #biodiversity Nir Vaida Julie Qin Gioia Lelli Camille Accolas Thomas Gmeiner Elijah Kilzer Leo Caprez

Our natural world is in crisis. We urgently need world leaders to translate recent landmark biodiversity agreements, including the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the High Seas Treaty, into action. Last night's high-level event in NYC showed that leaders are beginning to deliver on their commitments, with new biodiversity initiatives and finance announced. But MUCH more is needed if we are to reverse biodiversity loss by 2030, in support of #climateaction and the #GlobalGoals Event press release: https://lnkd.in/eDT4CEBX #AgreementToAction #UNGA78 #NaturePositive

Following the coverage of Climate Week NYC, it is heartening to see what we can achieve if we work together. An important side event not to miss is the World Biodiversity Summit on 21/9, see details in the Animondial post below: #naturepositivetourism #naturepositive #biodiversitycrisis #biodiversity #biodiversityconservation #animondial World Climate Foundation #climategroup #climateweeknyc #climateweek2023 #climateweek #travelandtourism #WorldClimateFoundation #SDGSummit #CGI2023
'We can. We will' the theme of the current Climate Week NYC, but that success is dependent on collective action, co-operation and working together. " The climate and biodiversity crises are closely linked and equally serious. Unless we address biodiversity loss and the degradation of nature with similar urgency to that of climate change, we will not achieve the climate targets or the Sustainable Development Goals. Cooperation across sectors is therefore vital, and I commend the World Biodiversity Summit for facilitating this exchange." Dr Anne Larigauderie, Executive Secretary, IPBES An important side event at this week's Climate Week NYC, is the World Biodiversity Summit that is bringing together businesses and speakers to address 'Partnering for Nature'. Register to join the event online on 21/9/23 and watch really insightful past event speeches here: https://lnkd.in/dtXyex6 Building partnerships is at the core of everything we do at Animondial. Whether that is connecting and sharing Nature Positive Tourism expertise and training, supporting teams through Natour Impact evaluations or making introductions to animal and nature positive experiences from our approved Animal Protection Network.
