#ClimateWeekNYC 2023 is complete and this week kicks of #ClimateWeekPNW! Here are a few of my key takeaways from the sessions I attended last week at NY Climate Week: 1) "Perfect is the enemy of good." - While it's important that we continue to research and innovate to develop the best ways to go after climate change, we also must value pace over perfection and execute on the solutions we have today every if they're not perfect. 2) Our messaging must be relatable. - I heard from many expert storytellers about what it means to tell a good story and the key takeaway here for me was that imperfect, relatable characters are often the most compelling component of a story. Something I'll be taking with me on my journey to be a better data storyteller! 3) Always consider indigenous knowledge and impact on vulnerable communities. - There were some excellent examples of this over the last week such as efforts to build micro-grids and energy sovereignty in Canada and reporting on indigenous stories in Brazil. However, this topic was not on the agenda of every conversation. It is critical that it is part of every sustainable solution conversation going forward, as we must avoid creating a new form of colonialism by excluding indigenous and vulnerable communities. THIS WEEK at Climate Week PNW, I'm looking forward to: - Lightning Talks Session on 09/27 - https://lnkd.in/g8MDf6FR - Green Jobs, Green Futures Summit on 09/29 - https://lnkd.in/gvF9wWgD #climateweekNYC #climateweekPNW #climatechange #sustainability #greenjobs #sustainabledevelopment

Why not incentivise industries for sustainable practices? In my recent TEDx talk, I drew on some parallels between combating climate change and Edwin Sabuhoro’s “poacher turned gamekeeper” solution.
