Today is World Cancer Day. The ongoing theme for this important global awareness day continues to focus on closing the care gap. Aimed at understanding and recognising the inequalities in cancer care around the globe, and recognising the power to overcome this by working together. As reminded by the campaign organisers, every single one of us has the ability to make a difference in reducing the global impact of cancer. Today is #worldcancerday. The day aims to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. Led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the primary goal of #WorldCancerDay2024 is to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer. It’s a chance for us all to reflect on how we work together to support the many global initiatives to overcome stigma, promote awareness and drive innovation in early detection and treatment. 2024 represents the third and final year for the theme 'Close the care gap' which focuses on eliminating the difference in access to cancer care services faced by different socioeconomic, ethnic, gender and age populations. We're thrilled to share news of a $2M partnership with leading research foundation Break Through Cancer to find treatment strategies that leave no ALK-positive cancer cells alive. Break Through Cancer brings together great minds across leading research institutions to solve big research questions like curing ALK+ cancer. ALK+ cancer often recurs because a small number of malignant cells have escaped the effects of targeted therapies. This residual disease fuels the cancer’s recurrence and spread. BTC will work to identify and test novel therapies to ultimately leave no cancer cells alive.
