Saying nothing at all should never be a requisite of non-disclosure. You still have options. Keep a dialogue going. Without one, there is too much room for misunderstanding. Georgie Russell, Associate Director at Bladonmore, looks at why saying nothing is a hard strategy to pull off. Former British Soldier - Leadership, Personal Development & High Performance Coach. I work with people to enhance Leadership, Self Efficacy & Efficiency especially Time Management, and Continuous Personal Development.
Help always comes from a good place or does it? What effect does unsolicited advice have on people? One of the three roles we can adopt or get dragged into is the role of ‘the rescuer’. We just want help, but is that the right way to just charge in and help people by giving them unsolicited advice even though we think it’s coming from a good place? Quite often people just want to be listened to. Consider that. #supportingpeople

Workday Guru * Analytics Generator * Engagement Lead * Trainer * Talks (and thinks) about EVERYTHING *
My plan was to write 10 weekly posts, and here's the 10th! I didn't know exactly what I'd write on each one when I started, but it's been interesting from a personal viewpoint to see what ideas have come out. Each post has felt successful for different reasons and I am glad to have stuck to the original aim, as well as sharing opinions and feelings I have genuinely felt strongly about. I will take a little break, I might even be less religious about posting weekly/on a specific day when I do start posting again; but I know that when there is something I want to say, that LinkedIn (and more importantly, my own network) is a great place to put it out to. I will leave it for now with two things, the first is a video about prioritising your own development (as a person) and the benefits it could bring. It's not quite the "You are not your job. You’re not how much money you have in the bank..." sentiment that Tyler Durden proposes in Fight Club, but it gets pretty close and is most certainly more helpful. It's also less then 3 minutes and will not waste your time: https://lnkd.in/eKqBqHcX I also wanted to share the names of a couple of people who have helped give me the confidence to start posting and share my voice for different reasons. They are more than worth a follow: david mcqueen - I haven't felt personally challenged so much (counselling excluded) by a person since Jordan Peterson (for clarity, they are VERY different people). David is BRAVE, focusses on leadership but also on asking questions and proposing ideas that genuinely make you think about your own conduct across multiple areas and how you can improve. He treads a line that the status quo fear to get close to. He is also a newly published authour and his book is now on my reading list. Krishna Desai - I actually went to school with Krishna, but the reason she inspired me is for her #IndianInsights posts. As much as I consider myself an ally on multiple fronts, hearing about Krishna navigating a male/white-centric industry has helped me realise (as someone of privilege) there is always more to learn and understand, and that there is so much more distance to travel in terms of reaching true equality/equity within the workplace. She also shares her story with a smile and a positivity that beguiles the subject matter. And even when she takes a break from posting, she always come back strongly. Thank you both for your continued guidance and inspiration. Otherwise, that's me signing off (for a little bit, anyway). Thank you for any interaction you make with this post or have done in my previous posts. It truly adds value to my understanding. Feel free to share the names of people you think are more than worth a follow in the comments and I will definitely check them out within my downtime! #fridayfeeling #achievement #sticktotheplan #appreciation #development #personaldevelopment #personalgrowth

In our constantly connected world, it's easy to overlook the impact of our online presence. While sharing our experiences can be empowering, it's crucial to remember that certain matters demand a more private approach. Personal struggles necessitate personal solutions, not public attention. Let's be mindful of the implications of oversharing and prioritize discretion when it comes to our personal challenges. #DigitalEtiquette #PrivacyMatters #ProfessionalConduct

One of my followers sent me this little nugget, and isn’t it a keeper. It tells us to channel Michelle Obama’s “when they go low, we go high”. It reminds me not to troll the trolls. And it helps us hold onto our decorum when everyone else is letting go of their’s. When we are mistreated at work (especially in places where the overall culture and system is not good), it is often our reaction that is policed, not the behaviour we were subjected to (or the person / people that did it). It can become a sort of ‘double failure’ - the shitty treatment is fail number 1, and the inadequate or misdirected action is failure number 2. So in response, we have to outsmart the bastards- not roll in the shit with them. - Take copious notes with names, dates and details. - Take recordings on your phone (voice calls and meetings). - Confide in a trusted colleague or friend and seek advice from them (they’ll have a clearer head). - Know your rights - read your company policies, call WorkSafe, read case precedents. - See if you can find out if there have been other complainants in the past and speak to them. - Take a support person to any formal meetings, ask them to take minutes / a transcript. - If you want to verbally complain, write yourself a script in advance and read it out. - Choose your words carefully - make yourself sound ‘legal’ and informed. Whatever you do, don’t roll around in the shit with the perpetrator.
