🌟 Embracing Vulnerability and Building a Killer Team 🌟 Last fall, the stars aligned, and I found myself at an eye-opening D2C event in Toronto, all thanks to Blair Forrest's gracious invitation. Speakers like Jake Karls, Mike Fata, Margaret Coons, and Karen Danudjaja dropped wisdom bombs that resonated deeply with me—especially on the topic of vulnerability. Oh, and did I mention we also clinched the 60-second pitch? Hoka! Reflecting on my journey, it's a wild ride from the tough streets I grew up on, kicked out by my dad at the age of 13. Back then, my daily grind involved navigating through the drug world, gangs, and constant struggle with substance abuse. Vulnerability was deemed a weakness, a trait that could be exploited—a stark reality in the school of hard knocks. Fast forward to today, and I find myself at the helm of a dynamic team, a crew that not only complements my skills but fills in the gaps where I fall short. While degrees may hold their value, my street smarts taught me that a killer team is absolutely indispensable. Being vulnerable was a survival strategy on the streets, but in the business world, it's transformed into my superpower. It's taking time to shed the armour I built to protect myself, but in doing so, I've unearthed the ability to connect authentically with others. Life experiences have sculpted me, offering a unique perspective that fuels my determination. I've come to understand that vulnerability doesn't equate to weakness; it's a wellspring of strength, a potent tool for forging genuine connections and fostering collaboration. So here's a toast to the journey—from the streets to the boardroom, from vulnerability to strength. Never underestimate the power of authenticity, and always remember: you don't necessarily need degrees; what you truly need is a killer team. Do you struggle to find that one minigful thing in your life? Discovering your passion can be quite the adventure, isn't it? For me, it wasn't an instant "aha!" moment. It was more like a gradual unfolding of interests and values. So, I totally get where Simon Sinek coming from with being in the "later grew into your passion" camp. As for changes in the world, well, there's plenty I'd love to see! For starters, I'm really passionate about empowering individuals and small businesses owners through financial literacy, data ownership, or just fostering a more independent and inclusive society, those are some big changes I'd love to be a part of. And when it comes to values, mine are deeply rooted in authenticity, empathy, and continuous growth. I find that when I align my actions with these values, everything just falls into place, and I feel like I'm making a meaningful contribution to the world. How about you? It's a reminder of the power of genuine connections, transcending the initial purpose to impact every aspect of our lives. I am beyond grateful for this journey with him, for the laughter, the learning, and the love that we share. Who would have thought that the principle of 'buy term and invest the difference' would extend beyond the financial realm to teach us about the value of investing in relationships and the rich returns of companionship and understanding? It's a profound lesson in the unexpected gifts that life offers when we're open to the possibilities.
