And yes, it’s true, it’s not perfect…average snowfall depth in Minneapolis, MN is around 50 inches a year. Public relations in sponsorship management is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their target audiences. It starts with an understanding of the needs and interests of potential sponsors and aligning them with the goals and objectives of the organization seeking sponsorship. Begin with a well-crafted proposal that can attract and convince potential sponsors. Clearly define the benefits and opportunities that the sponsor will receive. This can include brand exposure, access to target audiences, networking opportunities, and the ability to align with a reputable organization. Highlight your organization's unique selling points and demonstrate the value to the sponsor. This can be done by featuring past successful events or initiatives, sharing success stories, and providing data and statistics that support the organization's claims. Additionally, tailor the proposal to the specific needs and interests of each potential sponsor. This requires conducting thorough research on the sponsor's brand, objectives, target market, and existing partnerships. By understanding the sponsor's perspective, the organization can position itself as the perfect partner. Lastly, the proposal should be visually appealing and well-organized. Including relevant visuals, such as photos or infographics, can also help to capture the sponsor's attention and make the proposal more memorable. Adding links and social media handles so sponsors can research your organization is also helpful. Evaluation is another essential component of sponsorship management that allows organizations to assess the return on investment (ROI) and make informed decisions for future campaigns. Evaluation is written as part of the proposal and involves establishing clear and measurable objectives. This can include increasing brand visibility, generating leads, driving website traffic, or improving brand perception. By defining specific objectives, you can track progress and success of the campaign. The next step is to identify relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) for each objective. This can include metrics such as reach, engagement, website traffic, conversion rates, or social media mentions. By tracking these metrics, the organization can assess the impact of the sponsorship campaign and identify areas for improvement. Overall, a key to keeping your sponsors happy is to deliver on what was proposed. Maintain regular communication by providing updates on your organization's initiatives, sharing success stories, or inviting sponsors to exclusive events or networking opportunities. By keeping the sponsor engaged and informed, the relationship will be strengthened and increase the likelihood of future sponsorships. Sometimes the engrained sales process can hide true opportunity. Process is good, but it is important to have a bigger vision as well. Let me give you an example... Often times, when we approach teams/venues, we're greeted with the industry standard of "very cool idea, but implementation will require a corresponding marketing spend and free product". This is a knee-jerk response from Partnership Sales Teams to help weed out all of those "kicking tires" on sponsorship. Now, don't get me wrong, this is a good practice - especially in top-tier sports. At the very least, you can focus attentions only on those with the means to engage in big-ticket sponsorship packages. But here is why Cup Carrier Media will never entertain such a proposal... 1. A marketing spend just doesn't work for us - we ARE the media channel. We don't sell product to consumers, we sell to businesses (teams/venues), who use our carriers to increase THEIR sponsorship media inventory for sale. Any marketing spend for us in this capacity is money wasted. 2. Corresponding free product just doesn't make any sense. Cup Carrier Media doesn't hold an inventory - all of our carriers are "made to order" based on the specific sponsor and messaging initiative. We will only manufacture product if there is a sponsor willing to pay for this opportunity. IF WE WERE to bring "free product" it would be with a sponsor WE HAVE SOLD and none of that financial benefit would go to the team/venue. Not to mention the fact that EVERY TEAM WE HAVE TALKED TO wants to keep close relationships with all of their sponsor partners and normally won't entertain others selling their sponsorship rights on their behalf, or without their involvement. Literally, us bringing FREE product is sponsorship revenues NOT going to the team or venue. 3. Our patented drink carriers are a consumable, at the end of the day. Does the napkin or drinking straw manufacturer also have to entertain a marketing spend and free product? NO! So why would Cup Carrier Media? This is an example of where the "status quo" has impeded a greater opportunity. Some Partnership Teams at sports clubs or venues need to broaden their vision and see the bigger picture, instead of just settling for the selling this year's media inventory, and nothing more..
