Great to attend Event Sustainability Live yesterday, connecting with like-minded people, meeting familiar industry faces (including Trees Not Tees, TeamTogs Limited, Not Your Every Day Ltd and The Ops Nest) and being part of isla's first member AGM. There were lots of actionable takeaways, including: 🌍 The power of collaborative conversations - Tricky conversations help us improve. Challenging our suppliers, competitors and clients to make the sustainable choice. “Collective impact means you’ll move faster” Anna Abdelnoor 🌍 Sustainability needs to be sustainable - Going from 0-100 is not the way to do it. Focus on a handful of feasible changes at a time 🌍 Events aren’t going anywhere, but we can reduce the impact we have - There are tweaks we can all make to bring about incremental positive change 🌍 Be vulnerable - Don’t be afraid to shout about the steps you ARE taking and be open about your struggles. Superb article from the talented Holly Patrick about The rise of sustainable subventions provided by cities and CVBs. Well worth a read. It shares some great examples from GDS-Movement cities and a nice quote from Genevieve Leclerc, CMP "Convention bureaux can boost demand for 'sustainable' service providers by forcing event promoters towards more socially and environmentally responsible procurement practices.
