Dear Dr. Neimeyer, I have just one question, but it is a big one. In your opinion, what is the meaning of life?--Nicolae Dear Nicolae, I'm a practicing psychologist who works alongside people who are struggling with deeply unwelcome changes in their lives--the breakdown of intimate relationships, the loss of career or meaningful work, the onset of life-threatening illness, and especially the death of loved ones, often in tragic circumstances. As a scholar and researcher I also study how people meet, and typically surmount such adversity. Decades of doing this work has shaped my understanding of the meaning of life, and specifically how people rebuild or reconstruct life's meaning when it is devastated by events beyond their control. Here I'll reflect briefly on these "lessons of loss," viewing them through a narrative lens that has proven helpful in our research, as well as to the people who consult me in my practice... .https://conta.cc/3RcefS5

In the latest edition of the 'Journal of Awareness Based Systems Change', you can find an ‘In-Dialogue article’ which features a conversation on the challenges and importance of knowledge as process – as embodied through practice – rather than knowledge as product. Overcoming my own imposter syndrome at being in such great company, I found it an awe inspiring and energising conversation to be part of. Facilitated by Oliver Koenig and Megan Seneque, other dialogue participants included Bayo Akomolafe, Ioan Fazey, Injairu Kulundu, Dylan McGarry and Michelle Proyer. We traversed personal stories, diverse practices and alternative perspectives, with a focus on the role of transformative (and transgressive) research in shaping new worlds. And we found common ground in our hopes for a radical shift towards research that is much more relational and co-creative. Knowing this may be counter to a global trend that is boxing knowledge up as an output or efficient answer, it was nonetheless heartening to spend time with others who value ways of knowing, not just the known. The transcript of our conversation is captured in this piece ‘Transgressive Knowing: Lying Down with the Trouble’. https://lnkd.in/gEQSAN4x

“Reality should not be this universal standard of limiting norms. Even if binary order, coding, or digital twins, create a more efficient world, we need to make sure the systems we live in are philosophically and existentially healthy and rich. It is about expanding the domains of possibility for all forms of life, in a way that respects the balance of the whole Gaia living system and beyond.” Luis de Miranda That’s why I have recently joined Enriched Realities Assembly as a founding member. For me, the Enriched Realities Assembly is a place to cooperate and co-create with others to integrate our entangled selves in a world that is suffused with otherness – whether digital, natural, cultural, or artificial and to practice and explore philosophically healthy enriched realities for both humans and non-humans.
