Just like Ernie stops to explore every little thing on our walk, we must sometimes pause and navigate through the details and challenges in our projects. Whether it's waiting for the right contract opportunity, dealing with project roadblocks, or managing client expectations, patience helps us stay grounded and focused. I've been hearing a lot from family lately about how I should consider finding a more "masculine" field instead of looking into Office Management. Where I come from, tough city jobs are the golden ticket to a respectful career. I've even highly considered the change, but could you imagine me running into a burning building or working in Law Enforcement? "Excuse me, you broke the law, may I please arrest you?" 👉 👈 😅 It's been tough defending the career path I'm passionate about as I'm incredibly proud to be in the workplace/office operations field. Creating an exciting, safe, and fun workplace for everyone is my passion. MY RECENT SHIFT ✨ I've recently made a significant career shift from MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS WRITING to VIRTUAL ASSISTANCE (with a focus on Social Media Management). It's been an incredible journey so far, and I'm excited to share my story with you. Late last year, I was thinking of what could help me pool all my intellectual resources together and shuffle between them when necessary. After a moment of research, I came across virtual assistance. It was like an avenue to be comfortable with my bag of creative skills. In January 2024, I took the leap and started learning from professionals in this new field. And in about two months, I started landing clients. Needless to say, I had my seat at the table of rejection mails too. It's been a whirlwind of learning, growing, and adapting, but I'm loving every moment of it. As a social media manager and virtual assistant, my goal is to help businesses, creators, and entrepreneurs succeed in the online world. Whether it's managing your social media presence, creating engaging content, or providing administrative support, I'm here to help you shine. I'm still learning and growing every day, but I'm excited to see where this new career path takes me. And the music just stopped! 🎵 🎶 😱 "Postings for available positions dropped to 8.7 million in October, from a downwardly revised 9.4 million in September, according to the Labor Dept.’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey." Far too many people don't have a chair, or a job. Which stinks! But, now's the time to do something out-of-the-box to stand out. If you're a Veteran and/or project manager, and Open to Work, here's what I'd try. (Disclaimer moment- I'm a lunatic and willing to go as far as possible to achieve my goals. Just short of getting the police involved!) Video Pitch: Record a short video introducing yourself and explaining why you are the perfect fit for the job. I'd aim for 1 minute, max. Check out Vidyard if you need an option. -Email it into the C-Suite. -Connect with C-Level on LinkedIn and DM it over -Call them and ask them to look for it! Mock Project Plan for the Company: Develop a mock project plan for a hypothetical project the company might be working on. Or, research one they are working on and point out potential issues. -Email it into the C-Suite or PMO. -Call them. -Connect with C-Level on LinkedIn and PMO. DM it over. Host a LinkedIn Workshop: "Why hiring (your name) is the best damn decision you'll make in 2024!" Or, offer a virtual workshop or webinar on a trending project management topic. This not only positions you as an expert but also provides an opportunity to network with potential employers who attend the session. -Connect with targeted company decision-makers and send invite. -Practice, practice, practice and crush it for 30 minutes. -Follow-up and get interviews. Look, none of these are guaranteed but they stand out. That jobs report made me panic and I'm currently employed! If I were in the WDC area, I'd be on the platform at Metro Center Station with a big sign that said "Certified Veteran Project Manager- Open to Work," and I'd be handing out resumes as fast as possible. If you think the job market sucked before, it just got worse! Any other out-of-the-box ideas?
