Ahead of the UK local elections tomorrow, Rt Hon Chris Skidmore and Christopher Hammond argue in Sustainable Views why the votes cast tomorrow are so important. "All politicians who are elected this year will have a pivotal role to play in delivering the UK’s climate ambitions. It will be under their stewardship the country will either meet its emissions reduction target of 68 per cent on 1990s levels by 2030 or it will fail. And when it comes to #climate policy, these outcomes will yield effects for decades to come. 2024 is when the world witness the biggest election rounds. Half of the world (about 4 billion people from 64 countries - including 18 African countries) will cast votes and decide their respective leadership in the future. Will these elections bring to power leaders that are more climate-conscious? How many climate agenda have been put forward? What development will this shape across the African continent? Climate Crisis Advisory Group (CCAG)’s public meeting answers some of these questions and I’m pleased to once again be in the company of Alice Hill, Sir David King, Mercedes Bustamante and Ade Adepitan.
