The first time I was nominated as a leader was in primary (basic) 3 by my classmates to be an assistant class monitor.
.
I was surprised. I was this quiet pupil, never had time to talk and don't even show myself. In fact, I had some bullies who usually mock me for being too quiet.
But guess what? The same bullies were part of those who nominated me. And that's where my leadership life started.
.
My friends would say I am in charge. I can do and undo, deal with people... Rather, I found ways of talking to you to stop disobeying rules, and that's it.
I had no need to express power except you are adamant to my talks on several occasions. Of course, measures were taken in certain cases such as reporting to teachers.
.
As I moved forward in classes, I ended up being the head boy in my primary 6. I became one of the most known pupils.
At the end of every term, people would expect me to come out 1st position, but often get disappointed cos I never took 1st throughout my primary education.
.
Then, I thought that only those who come 1st in class should merit the 'Head Boy' position. But, I was given the position.
.
After primary school, I had a similar experience in secondary school.
.
From my first day in tertiary, to the last day, I was a course representative. Every semester, I was made a course representative.
I handled a few positions in my department, as I wasn't much interested in the entire institution's students union government politics.
.
Entering NYSC camp, I was nominated a platoon leader. God being with me as always, I led my platoon to 2nd position in overall camp competitions/activities.
.
At this stage, leadership became my life. I got used to it. Till date, as a worker, I am a branch manager and the head of a department from the head office. ...
.
That small northern boy (me) who used to be very shy to address even his mates in primary school, is now a confident fellow who can stand any crowd and lead in God's grace.

With the little I've experienced, this 𝗝𝗣𝗜 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 that will happen in 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁 next year, I will try my best to be there to learn more about leadership, from Dr. Jamie Pajoel 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙨. What about you?
Dr. Jamie Panoel also said you should make sure you have data to prepare from today, possibly to share from JPI Int'l Leadership Conference Rwanda.
