Some of the new reps at Signpost have been messaging me great questions, which has inspired me to think of clearer ways to explain sales processes. I came up with an analogy while driving today that maybe the rest of you will like, too. I'm from Chicago, where traffic can get nasty. When I'm driving around, Google Maps will often give me options to reroute... path 1 has more traffic but you don't have to pay tolls, while path 2 is quicker but on a tollroad. When selling, be like Google. If a prospect rejects your first recommended path, don't assume he/she will reject every path. Reroute. Because just as how I may prioritize toll fees or speed while driving, prospects may prioritize one concern over another on different days. Have you ever had to reroute your sales strategy? Some topics are worth revisiting (beyond my thank you for including me). Alignment between sales and marketing is one of them. Esp. given the tough times when every company is trying to figure out the magic formula for growth. To this end, I could not agree more with Karine Regev in her latest post - consistent messaging across the buyer’s journey coming from marketing and sales is key. Not only does it build trust and interest, it leads to better opps and more predictable pipeline. Zeroing in on your ideal customer profile is also key - as you cannot create consistent messaging before you choose who the messaging is for. And yup, otherwise it leads to a constant blame game. Jonathan Bregman of Yess got this so right - collaboration between sales and marketing magically happens when the marketing data is operationalized. In other words, sales believes in the work that marketing does. Highly recommend you look at Yess - wrangling the disparate prospect intent and engagement data across your systems is yet to be mastered. Until you get Yess.ai:) And that data can then be flexed to specific use cases so both sales and marketing can go after the avid demand, as Merav Zaks points out.
